UPD intake spacer kit installation issues (M278)

For whatever reason I can't get the UPD intake spacer and filter kit to fit on my 2012 E550. I have the rectangular spacer fully seated into the bottom half intake box with the air filter inserted into it. Then when I put the top filter box back on top, there is too much space between the two covers which renders the screw spacer useless. I spent like an hour re-checking everything and even tried tightening the screw down harder which resulted in a cracked screw housing. I messaged UPD and they mentioned I was installing the screws backwards and it should be installed from the top half air box. I'm not sure how this is possible since the only space for the screw to be installed is from the bottom half filter box. Regardless of the screw direction, the spacer ring + aftermarket intake filter raise up the top filter housing box higher than the screw spacer provided. Any ideas on what I'm messing up on?

Edit: the only thing I can think of is that this kit used to come with a green intake filter that had shorter edges/border than this red filter.

Filter looks too thick. Have a stock filter to test with?

It looks to fit with the stock filter, was really hoping to use the "high performance" ones, but I guess I can re-use my stock ones with the spacer for now. Thanks!

Filters are overrated. Stock is great.

Hi. If you want to use performance filters, BMC would fit there nice for sure. I did use that UPD+BMC combo before Blackboost.

Btw. if anyone is interested I have that combo in my garage ready to go to new owner.

Welp, I was able to install the spacer kit with the stock filters so the performance ones provided are too tall/the rubber borders are too rigid and don't compress. The seller has been absolutely no help chalking it up to installation error. I mentioned how the filters previously provided were the green version and completely different. I'm going to see if I can send these filters back and use the stock ones or buy the BMC ones.
