new E550 owner
Am picking up a 2014 convertible E550 tomorrow with few (no) options. Would like to add back up camera to start. I've seen some of the utube descriptions of a MBZ kit. Anyone have experience in putting one in and what source to get the kit?

Yeah, so am I but with the excellent condition of the car and routine MB dealer maintenance records they overshadowed my desire for options. The car drives like a monster. Why someone would configure an E550 conv car of this caliber and select minimal options is a question. In the end the bones is what matters, mechanicals. I can add audio and cameras.

It is time consuming to retrofit missing options although not impossible. Busy dealerships shy away from unsupported procedures such as upgrading components.
Couple forum members have shared coding upgrade projects...

Vin is WDDKK7DF3EF233746 I'll run it but the sales guy verified with me this am on the phone no camera. Camera came along in the Premium 1 package with nav, homelink, HK radio and few other bunched in the Premium 1 package. I held off buying it till I could go back and operate the vehicle again to determine I could live without those items. Again the E550 car in its entirety is a great package. Can't understand the options of some basic things were left off.

Here's function & wiring diagram for MB pre-facelift stand alone backup camera, as mentioned facelift got 360 cameras in o/s mirrors. Camera (b84/3) is part 2128201897, module (n66/10) 2128270006. Thanks for this information. As it turned out I opted for a 2016 E550 conv, one owner, premium 3 package. Just picked it up and alls good except the keyless go does not work and the Infoatainment has some qwerky stuff going one. Main thing for now is the start stop button was gone so I start it with the key fob. I purchased another start stop button just tonight but think the keyless go module is fried. I am willing to replace but need to find out where it is. Otherwise the car checks all the boxes.

Took the car to my Euro shop, scanner showed no codes for anything including Keyless go. I scheduled service call to Carmax to get them to resolve it. I imagine they will take to a MB dealer. During the PPI the tech noted 7 year old tires on a this 6 year old car and saw some dry rot. I will bring this up to Carmax as well. Consensus I read is 6 year is good practice to swap to new tires, and definitely 10 years get rid of them even if tread is still above 2/32"

Is the dash saying key not detected when you push the brake pedal and the start button? Sounds like a dead remote battery to me, but that's a guess not a diagnosis. Tires should be good until 8 years, plus or minus a year, six is old, but not quite dangerous unless you can see cracks in the treads or side walls.

As mentioned before the the key battery is good since it remotely locks and unlocks the car from afar and the red light comes on when pressing any button on the fob. I inserted the replacement Start Stop button I bought since the car arrived with no start stop button at all and when I press press brake and press the button it says. "Remove start stop and insert key" And yes there is some cracking on the perimeter edge treads.

Big thanks to all for the replies. I now have had enough input to check-replace battery in fobs even tho they remotely unlock the doors, So "uncle uncle", I give. I'll replace the batteries. If that solves the issue big kudos to everyone and if not still big kudos because at least that will be good information to report to Carmax when they say "Have you tried new batteries?" Interesting I noted today that there is no Air Scarf in either seat nor any button to turn them on. I researched this and in 2016 Mercedes had a patent infringement court case stopping this feature so maybe my car was one that was caught up in this. Premium 3 includes Airscarf among other features. There are so many features on these cars it takes time to thoroughly vet/discover all the systems.

I have a thought, after you replace the battery in the remote, try disconnecting the main battery for ten minutes, then reconnect and try remote start, keeping key fob at least thirty feet from car so they can't communicate for a while? May not work but it did once for me.

No Airscarf buttons and no Airscarf on seats. Although Airscarf is listed on Premium 3 on this car's sticker I'm thinking this fell into the timeframe where MBZ had a patent infringement lawsuit and they stopped putting them in. Trying a new battery in the fob just to make sure. and as Key08 and Konigstiger noted I am moving this to A207 Forum. Will provide updates. Thanks all. over and out.
