I thought these cars constantly throwing codes was a Meme...

Hello all who care to read, back again with another thread because my resarch was rather fruitless, so I thought I'd again take the time to document the problem thoroughly for those that come behind me. All too often on this forum, people abandon threads without a solution.

After I changed my low pressure fuel pump, 2 days later I got a code: P0430. I'm not surprised as my injectors were doing strange things as I was trouble shooting my low pressure fuel pump. My car is fine and tbh is running better than when I got it. Coming up on 100k miles, and the degradable car warnings are not a meme, buyer beware.

But I love my car for the love of the car, not for status, so I wont give up on it.

I'm going to start by cleaning, the o2 sensor,
then replacing it, barring success,
Then the whole cat is to be replaced, will keep you all updated.

What does your short term and long term fuel trim look like?

@no_mulligan I don't have my scan tool in front of me, so I don't know right now. What I did notice is that my o2 Sensor on the offending bank had a voltage of (negative) 0.02, so I'm hoping it's just an o2 sensor. Also, my lambda is leaning towards rick, but not enough to throw a light.

@S-Prihadi I'm waiting on one in the mail. Do you think that's what could be causing the issue?

@BenzV12 Thank you, it means a lot, It seems I take more pride in my work than the mechanics who I've taken the car to be worked on do. I had a guy put a bad ignition coil I left on my seat, back in the car...

Fuel LP pump >>> Fuel Filter>>>HP Pump>>>Injectors
Of all 4 of these items, 1 is consumeable, that is the fuel filter.

Depending on where you live, the fuel level of cleanliness can differ a great deal.
See here : https://mbworld.org/forums/e-class-w...er-change.html

With the media filter paper of only 36grams on the fuel filter unit, for my country as proven I best replace it as no more than 25,000KM if I want flawless power.
I do not wait for issue or troublecode to occur, I calculate everything and now I have baseline for my engine fuel filter life, be it by dirt or by "failure" of the seal.

If a diesel car, I replaced the fuel filter which is easy at engine bay, per 5,000KM along with the engine oil.
Our diesel fuel due to its affinity to grow algae from water, is BAD BAD quality in terms of cleanliness of the delivery truck's tank and the underground tank of the fuel retail station.

My friend Santa Fe Hyundai diesel of 47,000KM today, had a clogged fuel filter by 24,00KM thereabout 2years ago.
Fuel filter replaced and even the fuel tank got flushed to remove all dirt traces.

Last month the common rail fuel injection pump, a Bosch CP4.2 went bad. This design is also not so good, lawsuit is on going in USA for this model of pump on US cars.
Anyway, this is a freaking 1,600 BAR of fuel pressue...HOLY COW !!!!

So Hyundai Indonesia want to play safe, replace the common rail HP fuel pump, all fuel delivery pipe to all 4 injectors and replace all 4 injectors = US$9,000.
I tested the car last week, it is okey now, but not my friend's wallet.
Yes, fuel tank flushed again and it is quite dirty.

So what happened ?
The 2 years ago dirty fuel has caused a bit wear and tear on the HP fuel injection pump.
I scanned the car and saw the HP fuel pressure can't even hit 300psi/20 BAR during cranking ( it wont start at that low pressure )
2 years ago to today and also 1st event 2 years ago, have managed to deliver enough contamination and killed the HP pump.
Do note, our GDI HP pump and diesel common rail HP pump, is lubricated by the fuel it pumps at the piston/plunger side and that zone is super precision machining.
Our GDI is a weak 200BAR vs 1,600BAR, so this diesel HP pump works so much harder to generate 1,600BAR and any imperfection caused by contamination of the fuel = EARLY DEATH.

Fuel filter is consumeable, so focus on that.

The O2 sensors are in tough spots. I've put my eyes on a them but never figured out how to do it. My upstream ones were basically flatlined at a small negative value. I had STFT at 15% and 20%.

Do you mean 15%-20% is the small negative value ?
Or 15-20% is the Long Term fuel trim ?

What does it mean when your o2 sensor has a negative energy measurement value? It is pass away?
