Headlight covers pre-facelift
Has anyone replaced headlight covers on a preface, I am seeing them sold everywhere in ebay, amazon, etc, but not a single video on how to take them apart.

You'll have to put the headlight in the oven to melt the adhesive that holds the assembly on. There's a large aftermarket support for the rebuilding of lights (more specifically taillights) for purposes such as clear tails, or blacked out housing. As to specific instructions for the W212 chassis, that I am unaware. I presume Mercedes technicians would simply replace the entire assembly.

The only one I could find is this one, https://mbworld.org/forums/e-class-w...gunther-3.html
He dremeled it, something I just not sure can do. I mean I can use a dremel, but will the new lens stick back to the old surface?

A long time ago I ended up buying a "junk: headlight to do testing on fitment for many things and also wanted to see what it would take to pull of the front covers to see if possible (as I too have the "V")
I tried MANY things - heat\ and cutting it - by the time you apply enough heat you are also melting the lenses too.
This is not the usual sealant as someone else mentions - MB used some other glue?
Cutting was almost impossible\impractical - I tried dermal and heat\prying it apart with no luck.
If anyone has any good ideas and wants me to try anything i can pretty much do anything as I don't care too much about the unit. I just gave up figuring not work the risk to my current units...
(short of melting in my oven LOL)

I asked Oda112, he had done it before, and he had this to say:
Hello!
I dremeled around the lip that goes into the headlight housing channel where all the permaseal (black goo) lives.
There is a chemical solution that you can buy and use a syringe to inject it around the lens channel to soften the permaseal and remove the lens without having to cut it and leave part of it in the channel. I believe it's called Permatrator and it's made by Morimoto. That might be a lot more work than the Dremel method but it would be cleaner.
Having said that, I'm on year 4 of using the GE bathroom sealant to glue everything back up and it held up just fine. I've been through massive rain storms, -40F weather multiple times with 0 issues. From the outside you can't tell the kind of butchery I've performed, you'd have to take the headlight out to notice it and even then it doesn't look bad.
I'll look for more pictures when I have some more time but it should be obvious where you need to dremel to get the lens out if you decide to go that route.

Mind linking the hella lenses? I replaced them on my e55 and the key was to bake them in the oven. Not sure if my pfl s212 63s is the same, the lenses are still perfect.
Thanks

Gotcha, was excited to see perhaps a hella produced product. These, as many thing are these days, are copies. The last inexpensive set I bought did not as last long as stock. I would recommend clearing or using ppf for better long term performance.

The wagon's are identical. There are plenty on Ebay, just look for W212 headlight lens

Which is it? I'd love to replace one of mine. A new headlight is $225.

That auction states that it is "easy to remove and install" yet they don't provide any directions. This wouldn't be the first misleading chinese seller I have seen on ebay/ali so I am skeptical from the start. The previous responses in this thread indicate that this is not easy.
