How does Park Assist work, how do you use it?

Hey guys,

Turns out my 2014 E350 Wagon has Park Assist but as all my books and guides in the glove box are in Japanese I'm not sure how you enable it or switch it on, does anyone know how this feature works please?

Cheers!

Yes I have watched YouTube vids on it but my car only shows the Blue P in the cluster but doesn't then display the option to use Park Assist, is it possible to disable/enable it somewhere?

Yes, in the menu, but it was improved every year of production, so for example your '14 model does more itself than my '12, so you need to find the specific park-assist for your E Class 2014 model. Mine works great, but I would suggest you get an owners manual for your specific car. For example, with mine, it searches for parking spots on the right unless I turn the left turn signal on, then it searches the left side, mine also comes on automatically below 15 MPH, no button, if I stop, after I get the small white arrow indicating a spot, a prompt come up on the dash to ask if I want park assist.

I never used my automatic Park Assist, it is an insult to my parking skill
The noisy beeping distance sensor and its range bar is good enough, but if I have a rear camera ( which I don't ) I would be happy,
not because I need camera to see obstruction.... I need super wide angle to see azz-hole motorcycle riders who 99% are brainless in my country and
even as I reverse and already occupying the entire lane, bikers will harmfully squeeze in. Don't ask me why they do what they do.

Bikers many are this stupid in my country.... when one reverse his car into a garage or reverse a car out of the garage...bikers often does as per video below...LOL

I have a facelift W212, too. It will not display the option to use park assist UNTIL you select reverse gear. You must be at a complete stop and then select REVERSE to get the message.

Reverse gear is selected (in all cases) to start either parallel parking, or perpendicular parking. I use perpendicular (back-in) parking often.

This fellow, Nick O'Leary, is great. I subscribe even though he's in the UK.

Yes I remember Jakarta being NYC on steroids, I tried not to change lanes at all! We are not used to all the bicycles, motorcycles and motorbikes, like you guys have!

If your last visit was say more than 5+ years ago, now it is worse Pierre, much worse.
Ever since Gojek ride-hailing motorbike as fast "single seater bike taxi" and courier........ the numbers of bikes have exploded and the rude-ness have escalated

I find it's not worth it to use if you're decent at parallel parking anyways. Doing it manually is faster and the size of the space required for the car to attempt is too large.

Yes, my Sister in law just got back and said the same thing, it's been 12 years since my last visit. Milan and Rome are similar, but nowhere close to Asia and their all wearing designer clothing, especially in Milan.

Opportunities to parallel park usually are in the presence of traffic, which makes one feel rushed to get the maneuver done while cars pile up behind. That creates the feeling that the maneuver is slow. Here in Texas, I don't get many opportunities to parallel park in general, however. Only in older towns with narrow main streets. And those towns are becoming fewer by the day. Just as well, since TX drivers seem to be either un-skilled or rude (or both) when working with other drivers.

On the other hand...

When out of traffic on a parking lot with straight-in (perpendicular) parking spots, I feel less rushed without cars behind, and have fun showing my passengers how the car backs in by itself.

Thanks for the vids and user manual, that will definitely come in handy👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Ok I worked out what I was doing wrong as the YouTube videos I watched said you needed to use your indicator when you wanted to park on the opposite side of the road from where you would normally would in my case I normally park on the left so I went up to the local shopping area and did some practise parks but I made sure I put my left blinker on first so I can park in the left hand gutter and the system works very well, the car parked very square and equidistant between the car in front and behind, quite impressed, I've never had a car with this system before and never used one before its quite impressive how well it works.

Cheers👍🏻👍🏻
