Eco

Hey y’all got a question. No urgency just saw that me eco sign on my dash changes colors and I don’t know why. 2014 E350 4matic flex fuel. Edit: I see it’s to shut the engine off as an auto stop start. But it does it without my input and with turn off and on without input.

Your owner's manual (printed or digital) tells all. To turn off ECO Stop/Start, simply press the "ECO" button on the center stack, just right of the hazard flasher. And yes, you must press the ECO button each time you start the car's engine...

well I kinda already knew that. My question was when it goes from yellow to green. It does it by itself.

It changes color to tell you when ECO Stop has become active and the engine quits. It will automatically change back to standby when you press the gas pedal....

so it’s just a system that does it randomly? It’ll do it sometimes when I come to a stop light. But it’ll be green going down the interstates at 2K rpm. I’ve owned the vehicle for one year and today is the first day this has happened. Wondering what I did to turn it on and off. My Eco has been on since I got the car I don’t really turn it off. It doesn’t bother my I was just very curious and I couldn’t find anything about the timing of it.

When all conditions are met, the ECO Stop/Start system will operate. When all parameters are not met, it will not work. The changing lights display it's readiness (or not), and state of operation when primed and ready. There is nothing random about it.

RTFM.

So, the ECO display is YELLOW when it is not ready(ie, the battery is not fully charged) and GREEN when it is ready to work(battery is fully charged). Car will shut down upon stopping only if the indicator is GREEN, if YELLOW, it will continue to run the engine when you are stopped.

did you recently change your main battery? If not, and the ESS system has always been working under your ownership then I will say you have simply not been very observant of the ECO ready light.

Good scanner will show you the system.
I check it years ago, so memory got murky, but scanner had about 8 parameters that need to be meet for ECO to activate. Not all parameters apply to all cars.
Most common issue for ECO not engaging is 1 of the battery not performing and system is extremely sensitive.

LOL, and you won't see it anywhere, either. That's my 1.21 Gigawatt power generator button for time warp. Surely you've seen "Back to the Future?"

I have FUN with my cars... hehe.

Well, the Flux Capacitor button doesn't work without the lightning bolt antenna...

OK, that's enough off-topic frivolity while HippoCow reads his manual.

ECO... HARAKIRI 😄

Normally ECO cuts out engine but sometimes it kills itself too.
While ECO is disabled, you have every excuse to polute our planet... indulge or charge main system battery with CTEK.
