W212 rear subframe extended warranty
This deserves its own thread.
it appears that MB has now gone ahead and extended the warranty for corroded rear subframes that have corrosion caused holes in it to 20 years. That’s a 4 figure repair. Owners are supposed to be receiving a letter setting out the terms of this extended warranty.

I didn't receive a letter in the mail just yet, but I'm dropping off my 2014 W212 this morning for the repair, loaner as well. I spoke with customer service and he emailed the service manager at my local dealership. The scary part is that I've been to ATL at least 5 times in the last 15 months, and thankfully nothing happened with the vehicle.

I would assume the opposite. Most countries don't do the same thing as the US so it's really up to each countries branch of MB as to what they cover and what they don't. Consumer protection laws tend to be better in the US so there's lots of extended warranties that don't apply in other countries.

Very interesting - interested to hear if there's an official word in the UK or not. So far it seems to be case by case, customers would fail their MOT (or worse, break down by the side of the road) and then have to try to get MB dealers to do the word. Most did, some don't.
Where did you guys hear that it was official in the UK and Germany?

Very interesting indeed.
Now, as it obviously is a burning problem, does MB provide free of charge inspection for it or does it mean you can have a serious accident because the subframe broke without knowing you have a problem?

Letter in hand (once received), I intend to request the dealer to do the inspection along with the Takada airbag replacement... whenever that occurs.

Probably depends on the dealer. Sometimes they offer a free basic inspection including things like brakes so they can drum up business. Things like the leaking fuel tank they'd charge a diagnostic fee. But I suppose if all they have to do is get it up on a lift and look at it, maybe they won't charge. I suppose you as the owner could always crawl under the car or jack it up to take a look around too. After all the basic onus is on the owner to maintain the car.

Thus is great news! Thanks for sharing!
i vote this becomes a sticky!
curious if they will offer a reimbursement to those who already paid to have it fixed?

Zavato and Donnygt, thanks for posting.
Thanks DFW, I had forgotten about our airbag recall ... When I get my letter, I'll check with the dealer about both.

Has anyone recieved the letter? If so, what did it say about reimbursement? Was there a procedure? I did not receive the letter, so I sent a registered mail request today to MB USA for reimbursement with copies of all the backup evidence - paid repair invoice from dealer, proof of payment of the invoice, Copy of title, copy of current registration and copy of he Warranty notice from this thread. Looking for reimbursement for just over $4k the stealership charged for parts/labor to replace the rear subframe+alignment+tax. Will post any results once known.

So I got a call from MB USA in response to my letter to contact the dealer directly for reimbursement. I'm feeling the runaround blues coming on. Will give the dealer a call this week.

I received my reimbursement check from the dealer. Almost $4400 that i asked for (total bill was higher due other services/tires were also included in that invoice) including being reimbursed for the alignment done at that time due to the subframe replacement too .Much more painless than I thought it would be.

Good news for current owners. Unfortunately, I dumped my 186,000 mile 2011 W212 before I was ready to after rear subframe rust was discovered shortly before the U.S. warranty news hit. My letter arrived today. I wanted to break the 200,000 mark, oh well……

How cumbersome was to get a refund from then?

I took my car to the dealer in Del Ray Beach - they look at it and hold it for a week. Parts are on back order and don't know when they will get them. No loaner.
I may be a headque in the making.

I jacked up my car to check why it was pulling to the left on braking. My brakes and front end are working perfectly. So decided to check rear end and of wow I could not believe the condition of the rear subframe. That is incredibly dangerous. I am going to try and post the pictures here. if you get a pull on hard braking this may be the issue.
