Buy E350 help

Hello,

Help me please, I checked this car today E350 2014 with this VIN WDDHF5KB7EA983215 and attached report.
I drive it is ok and look very nice as dealer repair it and will sell it around 16K .
one thing confused me in the report is Mechanical and collision.
Why should be mechanical in this kind of collision and as I drove it very smooth and transmission shifts smoothly too, so what to check before buying.

Please advice.

Car image after repair.

It may drive fine and be worth it to you, but it is still a branded title car (salvage) with very high miles and selling at a price comparable to the same model with no salvage history. I would never buy a salvage title car unless I was going to drive it until it turned to dust. In terms of what to check you will need to rely on the opinion of a mechanical pre purchase inspection by a competent shop.

Thanks for valued reply but in Lebanon most cars imported from USA have salvage title and if you get one clean title it will be above 170k mile or price increased 3 to 4k$.
I scheduled a mechanic check before buy for complete inspection and as the result I may decide.
Cause as I see 2014 model with 128kmile it is not too since I saw many cars less than 100 kmiles but the damage too heavy but what about the damage is not too much or what you suggest.

Look for a car imported from Europe, then. Why would you buy ANY car shipped 6,000 miles from America when you can buy a car shipped just 1,000 miles (or less) from Europe?

Regardless of brand, US cars with salvage titles that are not sellable to anyone in the US are basket cases. Shipping to Lebanon only adds costs for a car not worth buying, period.

For comparison... My 2016 E350 with 40,000 miles, perfect title and immaculate condition has a trade in value of $20,000. Your high-mileage E350 on a salvage title for sale at $16,000 is about $15,000 too high, if worth anything at all.

By the way, there is no such thing as an E350 AMG...And that replacement grill just screams of front end damage repair.

Yup you are right but our traders not thinking about that and it is very hard to find car imported from Europe as I saw more than 20 cars never see one to be from Europe.
As you said that the car with high mileage so when it to consider it is high at what range and what to check for high mileage car as I see less than 100k mile cars but there were around 18 to 22k $ and most of them salvage title too with hard damages as the body deformed and repaired so this it will be more safer since no airbag intact and replacement part was little.
I see another cars with mileage around 150k to 175k miles and clean title one of them is 2016 model but it was used as Taxi and prices 18700 $ so do you think is that better.
As my drive habit around 6k miles per year.

Though it may look great in the pictures, you need a scan report of the vehicle. No light on the dashboard does not mean a perfectly working car. There may be stored codes that could hint at issues in progress.

Not sure how to compare car prices between Lebanon vs USA/Europe. Those are very different economies with different levels of car prices. i have seen countries where a brand new car is $20K more than the same brand new car in the USA. Therefore, it is not an apples-to-apples comparison. I have also seen countries where cars have appreciated in value despite increased miles, i.e. cars sold for more than the initial price (measured in hard currency, $$$) despite being used for 4 years.

The main issue is the "salvage condition", and what the car went through. As said earlier, a basket case is in progress.

I find it kind of hilarious that this car is now in Lebanon while still sporting the state of Georgia license plate. It is difficult for us to deal with the economy of your country and what is available to purchase at a good price. If your mechanic gives you a thumbs up on the repair and no laundry list of active fault codes then perhaps you can take a chance on it. At least it is not a flood car and mainly bodywork and mechanicals.

That is the case, in Lebanon cars must be less than 10 years imported but there is no law about titles if clean or not and our workshops will make totally wrecked car can be drive honestly that is our problems so if you make a tour for all dealers you will find most of cars as they advertise Clean carfax but when you get the report many things you will discover so many experienced buyers will try to get it damaged a little and they will repair better than get it repaired without knowing what is the issue else if we have somebody(relatives or friends) in USA or Germany can will get clean title car from there and send it. Else as you said get from basket. About license plates ohh you will see a lot of cars here will not register before 1 or 2 years sometimes for many reasons. Second thing I turned ON this car, I see two errors one about auxiliary battery malfunction and pre-safe malfunction but I drive it for some KMs it look fine, smooth and much power but for sure mechanical inspection deeply required and already scheduled.

The pre-Safe malfunction could be as simple as a disconnected wire under the driver/passenger, a dirty seat belt latch, or something as complex as the airbag system/else damaged during an accident. If I were to check, I will focus on the pre-safe since I believe that includes the ABS braking system as well. If any of the sensors are off, it is not working correctly. An auxiliary battery is likely just $$ and time to install it.

I guess pre-Safe malfunction will be detected by SDS or not, about auxiliary battery as I have w220 so I have no idea what type of battery should be used as it is like normal battery type or there is special kind of batteries.

Yeah, it makes me wonder if it's stolen but I guess it probably isn't as that would show up on a carfax. Still doesn't hurt to run it through, searching for carfaxes I see you can get them as low as $4 nowadays. Normally when you sell a car, you'd take off the plates before turning it in. Unless it was stolen and then shipped overseas...

https://www.nicb.org/vincheck

And yeah, I wouldn't buy a salvage title in the US, in other countries I guess all bets are off. There's two extended warranties that wouldn't apply to salvage cars. First is the faded wood which this car has, but it only covers a percentage of the cost so that's not that big a deal and there's the rusted subframe issue but I'm guessing that Lebanon doesn't get much snow and road salt isn't an issue so no big deal if those two aren't honored and you'd have to be in the US anyways to take advantage of those, they may or may not be covered in other countries.

Here we have only one exclusive authorized Mercedes Benz dealer for Lebanon and middle east totally, so about warranty I don't know about it how he can handle it, for me if I buy the car for sure I will use Lebanese plate but keep notice when we transfer the car from American import to Lebanese plate so its price will dropped as it will known as Lebanese used car (300Kmile mileage from Outside better than 100Kmile driven in Lebanon due of bad roads maintenance and smart mechanics when remove some parts as they said no needed in the car hehehe and so on).

Go here to run down the license plate number shown (post #1) to see why it has a salvage title. Service record obviously won't do it...

https://www.bumper.com/?utm_source=g...UaAtRWEALw_wcB

I won't download the pdf report long enough to read it myself, as no one could pay me enough to buy this car.

That is not bad accident at all, very easy repair.

There is someone in the w204 section who bought his at auction with little damage, imported it to Lebanon and got it fixed there. Perfectly reasonable, but of course price has to make sense.

That was a good deal for the buyer and the purchaser will get a great deal because of the title. That car was not even really damaged as no airbags deployed so this car was sitting when someone drove into it.

I would take it as you can see that they replaced the front frame, fender and repair and did a good job, even upgrading the front grill.

I would take it as you can see that they replaced the front frame, fender and repair and did a good job, even upgrading the front grill.
It seems so as long as the state under the hood in the original pictures was only due to sitting in the scrapyard, and not accumulated neglect during 120K miles (likely driven @16K/year or more depending on how long it sat in the yard). Otherwise, it is a beautiful Pandora's box. Even I have concerns when I see cars in that state when looking for used cars in the 100K miles range. In particular the M276, and I should emphasize that I had no issues with mine @90K.

Hi again, today morning me and the mechanic go to inspect the car deeply, he said the car is awesome and look fine after checking engine/transmission and all body exterior and interior then underneath the car. We got scanner and get the reports we see some fault stored or active as the below, I made some search for codes mostly related to auxiliary battery, we cleared all codes and run again so pre-safe inoperable and auxiliary battery didn't show up again but you can take a look for the codes we get.

Salvage titles - at least in Canada, or some Canadian provinces - will be issued when a vehicle is an insurance write off. In some places it is illegal to repair and put back on the road.

The kicker is "insurance write off". That is if the repair cost is too high compared with the car's (or motorcycle's) book value. Quite often - especially with motorcycles - the need to replace a lot of plastic body panels and associated paint work will cost so much the write off become the routine resolution.

Those before pictures don't look so bad. Replacing the Auxillary battery will surely clear some of the faults. If I were in your situation I would buy it. If I were still in Canada I would not buy a car with a Salvage title because it is essentially worthless at resale time.
