Front brake caliper MB badge

The MB badges on the front brake calipers of my 2016 E400 have been corroded since I bought the car in 2018. Car came from an area with high road salt. Dealer refused to replace the badges while still in original factory warranty. Last year I had the front rotors and pads changed (Indy mechanic) when the wear sensor on the dash lit up.

While changing the winter tires to summers today I noticed these badges seem to be attached to the caliper only on one side. Not sure whether this happened during the brake work I had done last year.

I realize this is cosmetic but the corrosion, and now the crooked attachment to the caliper, is bothering me. What is the fix? Can I purchase new badges and replace the corroded ones? Would I have to purchase new calipers instead?

Checked the Pelican website and could not find anything. Do the OE MB front calipers come with the badges pre-attached?

on my car the rear calipers have no badges.

You cannot buy those plates standalone - you would need to buy the entire caliper assemblies and you will gasp when you see the price. That's probably why your dealer refused to replace them.

Your best bet is to refinish them (paint, powder coat, etc) or get a pair at a wrecking yard. If you refinish them, you can get new aftermarket stickers online.

They are held in with a dowel and retaining clip on each end. They can become very hard to remove and the dowels will break if you don't pull it out evenly on both sides

I painted my brakes recently.
I recommend using some elbow grease and sanding down the calipers, then brake cleaner, then paint.
paint, then apply a new sticker, then spray with high temp clear coat.
I got the stickers from ebay

Thanks for the replies. I’m interested in Eurodriver’s explanation of how the badge attaches.

Right about now in a perfect world the guru K’ster would post a diagram showing the caliper and name badge assembly 😀🔧

Interesting video. Not supposed to remove the badge?

On my car, the badges on both front calipers are partially pried off - it looks like someone tried to pry off one side and then quit when the badge would not detach.

I could repaint to deal with the corrosion issue but I will still be left with badges that are partially detached.

Maybe I’ll try to press them back into place.

Technically, they are supposed to be removable. They are held in by a dowel with a circular compression retaining clip on the dowel. But with time, brake dust, dirt and corrosion make them very hard to remove. I bought a brand new set of calipers and in new condition, there was generous resistance to pop them off (I did it to get the calipers cerakoted).

If you just want to fully seat them, I'd suggest using a rubber mallet, or a piece of wood, etc., over the plate and pound evenly on both sides. On my new ones, I put a piece of cardboard over them and pounded with a rubber mallet to get them to fully seat.
