iCarsoft MB 2.0 , I just realized how unproductive using this unit is
Guys,
This MB 2.0 is my first ever scanner. So I never knew what is the norm for a scanner, back then some years ago.
Here is what I realized when I use it again few days ago during OBD port electrical load test.
It can not do a DTC QUICK SCAN on its own, I mean scanning all modules one by one automatically for DTC, be it active DTC or stored/historical one.
Its 2 choices would be :
SMART SCAN <<< this is automatic scan to check what modules your car has, it is not DTC scanning.
MANUAL <<< this one is a list of modules database, you choose which one you want to connect to. Yes, even modules your car do not have.
So when you have a DTC, you must go to all the modules one by one to read the DTC![EEK!](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/eek.gif)
Start at 3:10 minutes and you will see what I mean. No need for me to do my own video![Big Grin](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
In Autel mid range MT906BT or el-cheapo Launch Creader Elite for MB, they both have a true DTC full scan while at the same time scanning all available modules in the car.
So while scanning for available modules, the DTC in each and every modules are also being "asked" by these scanners.
Bear in mind there are 2 kind of "scan" we can do,even in Xentry.
One scan is to learn what are the actual modules on the car
One other scan is the DTC Scan, Xentry call it Quick Scan and it is after completion of scanning all available modules installed on the car.
===============
It is easy to miss a DTC, if one has to scan for DTC in each and every modules
.
Even the simplest variant of W212 would have 35+ modules.

I know exactly what you mean. My first ever OBD2 scanner was the iCarSoft
. As useful as it has been (I learned quite a bit using it), it was not one of my best decision lately.

I also discovered that MBII was feeding me false date for DPF regeneration.
To its defense, it is good emergency scanner when you are out of internet and might be low on android battery.
After this, I bought HT200/AP200 and that one has very nice troubleshooting pages, where you enter the trouble (Like "no start") and it will display all parameters needed for the troubleshooting on single page, where those with problem display in red.
Day and night.

Thankfully the v3 version of the iCarSoft scanner overcomes this issue. It runs a scan to detect which modules are in the car first and then scans all of them in one go and highlights the modules with stored/active fault codes in red.
The UI isn't great and there are some spelling mistakes, but I got it on sale, and it works just fine for scanning / clearing codes and reading live data from the modules as well.

I guess in the handheld scanner business we really get what we pay for. It seems that hundreds of models are available.
Everything always has limitations even the Xentry system does. The truth is the whole thing is made to suck down to every detail... yet overall it could be worse.
The biggest limitations is often our limited knowledge and understanding. Most people don't know what testing has to do with repairs. Test tools are expected to work like "cristal *****"!![rolf](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/rofl.gif)
I really wish Bluetooth dongle scanners were better through use of databases services over cellphone data.
We are still lucky to be troubleshooting Mercos while most of the 3rd world still goes around bare foot... right
Next week hello UK cruise tour with limited WIFI but unlimited 5G data... Lets's see!
Later I will need to get personal once again with : "Crazy OCP data..." : Power & CAN (No pins there!) this may inevitably force me towards Xentry -

My 1st own scanner cost me $130 and it was basic OBD only. Today $3 dongle with free Torque can scan more than it did.
I remember paying for iCarsoft about $150, when 3 years later the way more advanced HT200 cost me $49.

Always... reliably bad
Let's take this OCP topic back to your HVAC thread where you dealt with similar OCP issue (pano style).
