There is an extra 1 inch room in the tray, likely for Diesel cars
H8 is sold for the same price as H7... some people afraid to carry larger battery weight.
I think H8 AGM is an easy upgrade here.

Well, kjb55 did it, and Cali agrees, so I guess it means the 350 is different than the 550. I had a spare H8 I wanted to put in my '16 E550, and it was a no go. For one, it won't fit the mount at the base that holds it down.
I had a spare H8 and figured wth, right, just like you're thinking. I even tried to stuff it in there sans mount, but no, it wouldn't even fit in there. I'm pretty sure the firewall was the issue.
Plus, on my car, the firewall apparently gets really frikkin hot in that exact spot? A chance discovery because I had left a folded up paper towel in that spot, next to the batt, and later I pulled it out to find to find a charred spot on the firewall side of it!
Very confusing because how does the cloth and foam under it, that covers the firewall, survive? I looked for another possible reason and found none, which still bugs me. It was literally like a Gremlin burnt it just to F with me. I do, after all, have a Gremlin in the car, so it makes sense.

Thank you all for the responses.
So it sounds like either an H7 or H8 would fit in the E350.
I'm attaching some photos of the current OEM battery.
I wish they had printed the size on any of the labels.
Also interestingly, when I go to Costco's Interstate battery site, it says the 2016 E350 should use H6 size.

I use an H8, it lists H7 or H8 as two options.

Thanks for the reply.
May I ask where "it" lists H7 or H8 as the two options?
When I looked up the owners manual, the battery section only has instruction on how to jump start a car, or use caution when working on battery.

I ended up buying an H7 AGM battery from Interstate for $265, since that's the size of battery I currently have.
For those who also have a need for new battery, Costco sells H8 AGM batteries for $170. (they're also Interstate batteries, and none of my nearby Costcos have any H7 AGM's)
Also, two MB dealers in the area wanted to charge $314 for the battery, plus $235 for labor, for total of $549.
Four years ago I had the battery replaced by same exact dealer, and they only charged 260 + 80 = $340.
I don't know how the price could've increased $200 in four years...

Ask your President.
My diesel come with H8 and considering the price difference you quoted- I would buy it for gasser as well.
Some extra dead weight, but then better reserve power whenever you need it.
Costo batteries seem very good so far. I took my Solar tester buying 1 a year ago and 1000CA battery tested at 1600 CA.
can't complain.
