Aftermarket Exhaust

Hello. I have been searching for an aftermarket exhaust system without downpipes for my 2014 e550 but having no luck. Seems that everything I am finding comes with downpipes. Not looking to spend several thousand on the system, looking to spend less than $1200 if possible. Any leads would be appreciated. Thanks.

the closest option to that that i am aware of is HMD on aliexpress(china). it's about $1600 shipped. i cant personally vouch for them, but i believe a couple members have gotten exhaust from them and been satisfied

Keep the stock exhaust and just get an x-pipe? Would be alot cheaper and still get the sound when stepping on the accelerator.

+1 for what Zynthe said. I did a resonator delete in favor of an x-pipe and replaced the factory mufflers with a magnaflow style muffler. The car sounds great and from a performance standpoint likely does the same as most cat-back systems. All told I spent about $600.

I dont think just adding an x pipe will make it a lot more aggressive sounding. Im sure it will get a little bit more growl but looking for a decent amount of sound.

Yeah I like the idea of going with the Straight through magnaflow mufflers also. I will look into that. I am assuming it is 3' xpipe and mufflers?

It's whatever the factory exhaust diameter is, I believe. It's loud enough to turn people's heads when you're on the pedal and I'm particularly conscious of it on residential streets, but it's fairly quiet when you are cruising with no load on the motor. Here is a clip of starting it and another with a few revs. I don't have any video doing any runs up or down the street.

Sounds great! However mine is the 4.7L Twin Turbo so I am not sure that it will sound quite as throaty as yours. That extra displacement definitely changes things. I had an E55 that sounded much like that after i did the exhaust. Realistically though, the reason I am looking for a downpipe back is because I am trying to get rid of the catalytic converters also. I currently have the Weistec M278 tune that puts the car at roughly 540hp and 715lb ft of torque (their claim) however I would like to get more and that is the next step. I definitely want it for the sound also however.

I see you are from CO, as am I. I live in Parker.

Thanks. Doing things on a budget so trying to be creative. I'm a little jealous of your 4.7TT and really debated going that direction but ultimately settled for the NA 5.5L. I probably already tempt the fate enough with motorcycles. Just added an OE tune to it and notice that it has significantly changed the responsiveness off the line. Can't imagine what another 135hp/300+lbft of torque would feel like. Are you concerned about emissions testing if you delete the cats?

Yep I'm just up the road from you in Fort Collins!

I have a 2013 E550 and I deleted the resonator and put in E63s mufflers and it sounds great. That's probably the most cost-effective option if you wait until some mufflers pop up on marketplace. Edit: I just noticed that this is pretty much the same thing nocodesmo did except with amg mufflers instead of Magnaflow. Either way, the result will probably be similar.

I actually have all my vehicles registered in a small town in Iowa where there is no emissions required. In fact any vehicle thea is older than 12 years only costs $50 + tax a year for registration. My CLS 55 and my other 2 vehicles are super cheap to register and don't even have to pay for an emissions test!!
