IIRC, you can simply push/pull the headrest "up" and it will disconnect.

I tried that at it doesn't budge. Right now it's in down position and will not move with heavy up pull. There's something locking it in.

There's a release button on one of the bars in the down position. Press it and move the headrest up and beyond the stop notch and off. You can't break it.

Drivers who don't have third passengers in the rear seat remove the center headrest quite often, so they have a better view out the back.

On my car when the rear center headrest is down there is no post exposed. Feeling under the headrest there is no release button. Any other thoughts ? Thanks, Michael

Did someone insert it backwards? They will get stuck if inserted backwards.

As your picture, it is facelift model and you must remove rear panel first, and remove rear seat steel panel to remove the center or another headrest.
