CarPlay options for the W212

CarPlay options for the W212
Just picked up an E63 W212 and I'm looking to install CarPlay somehow. What considerations do I need to take? What are my options for CarPlay? I'm interested in an integrated solution vs just some cheap screen that sits on the dash. Thoughts?

As I told you, for w212 as of 2014 .... option 531. Is not the case here ..but if you have time and you agree to study hard, the current 512 Comand can be exchanged with the latest one, together with a new screen, button, USB, etc.

afaik, only 2016 have the correct COMAND to support Carplay and Android Auto. they still need a firmware ('flashware') upgrade, AND they need feature coding to enable the unsupported feature.
anyways, for older cars, your only choice are one or another of the multitude of funky Chinese Android/Carplay computers that sit between the car and the screen, or come with their own larger screen.

Yes, this is Comand Online NTG5s1 and is compatible with Carplay and AA natively, without any Chinese interface. In EU 2016+ is already 213. Depending on the market, the Option 531 ( NTG5s1 Comand) can be available from let's say as of 2015.

I have installed the RoadTop unit in both my 2014 C350 and my 2015 SL400 and it works fine with COMAND NTG 4.7. From time to time, I need to recycle Bluetooth and WiFi off and on on my phone, but I think that is more because of my iPhone than the RoadTop unit.
Buy it from Amazon and if it doesn't work to your liking, return it.

I'd love to find a solution that doesn't require an aftermarket android screen or tearing apart the dash.

Well, you don't need an android screen, but you do need to take the dash apart a little. Really not that hard of a job. several YouTube videos are out there. There is a lot of good info in the sticky on the SL R231 forum.

Vivid only offers one tune now for our engines which may be the custom tune they did for me when I was having problems with the Stage 2 drivability. But since disconnecting my oil pump solenoid, I can run the Stage 2 file without any problems.
