Exhaust tips on my E400 is hidden...

Greetings all.
New guy on this forum.

Okay. I'm a over middle crazy about cars.
After 25+ years as a Audi guy, I fell for the pure luxury and the looks of my 2014 E400 4matic.

The only "problem" as a petrol head, a real 1 world problem..
The exhaust tips on my car is hidden behind the bumper!
I see other E-classes w212's having visble ones, so why not on mine? 😊

I don't want to tune the car. Don't want to style it, lower it, or pimp it. Other than, I want to see chrome exhaust tips!
What can I do?
i really wish for a OEM look, with 4 round tips, 2 each side (of course)

Do any stores sell any rear diffuser with a simple addon for the tips?
Do I have to buy another diffuser and have a exhaust company tailor make something?

When I Google this, I get 1000s of "wrong" answers, so I figured that a MB forum MUST have enthusiasts that have done this?

I appreciate any tips (pun intended)

Does the vehicle have the "amg line" trim, if so the bumpers and front will be more sporty looking. Yours might just be the regular one or the luxury trim for a more elegant approach.

Put your VIN on the mb vin or lastvin or both sites and see if amg line or it probably is called sport something listed in the options.

I see, looks like the vehicle does not have the sport package/amg line, it looks like the avantgarde line.

I'm new to Benz world after a lifetime Audi owner. And I regret only one thing!
That I didn't try a Benz before 😊

But Avantgarde, is that another name for a sport package?

Still that butt make it look like an electric car in my eyes.
Wonder if other w212 have oval tips or 2 round ones? I feel it's one oval each side.

Avantgarde is a benz term I guess, it has something to do with luxury trim.

2014 - W212.065 - E400 ( M276.820, 3 liter Turbo) RWD not Hybrid
Mine type of exhaust tip. Taken from https://paultan.org/2014/02/18/w212-...ew/merce40040/

DRIVEN: W212 Mercedes-Benz E 400 Avantgarde 218608

From under the car, bumper still on the car

It is a simple adapter only.

The actual exhaust tip

Exhaust Tip adapter removed

If ur bumper has no cut-out for exhaust tip....you will need a different bumper version....oucchhh.

Unfortunately, this isn’t something new and is happening with lots of models. Many newer vehicles have these junk exhausts where they don’t actually go through the bumper or the bumper is just part of the fashion accessory and not part of the exhaust. I recently saw it noted somewhere that Audi has moved away from this and is now supplying a full exhaust with their cars. It’s just the cheapening of costs and production combined with environmental regulations. It’s funny because I would always think you would want an exhaust exiting from outside the perimeter of a vehicle. I guess they feel they’ve sealed up the cars so well that they’re able to get them to mold on the inside so it’s fine to have exhaust gases within the envelope of the shell. This is what happens when people care more about TikTok screens and selfie jerk off mode than the actual quality of their builds mechanically.

Some people's argument is that when they get hit in the rear, they can just change the bumper not repair or replace the exhaust system.

OP's specific vehicle did not option sport package with the sportier trim as well, something like this with no exposed or fake exhaust tips, it was part of a package (although this is a TDI) https://autofidelity.com.au/wp-conte...ss-W212-23.jpg
Diesels also don't have it usually but OP's is not a diesel.

On the W211, when you didn't get the sport package, the exhaust pipes were not only hidden, they were pointed downwards. That made it impossible to simply add tips and the sport bumper. It is very rare, in the US at least, to find a non-sport facelift 212. I think I've only seen it on the E250 bluetecs. If they're similar to the 211 and have downward facing pipes, then simply swapping the sport bumper with pass throughs isn't enough.

Thanks for the "bad news" 😊

Sounds like it's better if I just get used to have a car that looks like an electric car then.

I rather turn my mindset to "I now have a luxury car with a sport button, rather than a sporty car".
And luxury it is.
Them 333hp is a nice bonus though.

Yep, My pipes point downwards.

US model facelift (2014-2016) 212's come as 'luxury' and 'sport'. avantgarde is a dashboard color tone package, separate from luxury vs sport exteriors.

the Luxury cars have hidden exhaust, the sport cars have visible exhaust tips... the sport cars have lower/stiffer suspension, and generally 18" wheels, while the luxury cars have 'comfort' suspension and usually have 17" wheels.

Sport models get the flat hood badge, luxury models get the gunsight.

My '12 luxury has exhaust ports, they are single ovals, '14 as LCG said are facelift models and the luxury came as yours is, congrats, Luxury cars are rare, most are sports, I have both and the Luxury is a way different car than the sport, as you said, you have a luxury car with a sport button, not a sport car with a luxury button. the handling is night and day as the luxury sits an inch higher.

coming from a 1993 and 1994 E's, we didn't like the ride of the 'sport' cars at all.

btw, the opposite of 'avantgarde' is 'elegance'. 'avantgarde' is cold/neutral tone greys on the dash and interior trim, while 'elegance' is warm tones.

I mihgt be wrong about 'comfort' suspension, our datacard says "485 - DIRECT CONTROL suspension"

indeed, we spent 6 months searching for a 2016 E350 wagon 'luxury', and when we located one it was the only one listed in the whole country, it was in New Mexico. I've seen a couple more since, in fact I almost got in one in a parking lot, but realized it had the light grey seats and not the beige seats we have, otherwise it was the spitting image of my wife's car.

I suppose you could, but the sport has the ground effects bump out that the luxury doesn't have, so rear wheel well liners changed also, that might look weird

True, the suspension is also different right, affecting ride quality?

The variety of trims available always amaze me. My E400 is the Avantgarde line but has exhaust tips and center start on the grille on its "luxury" stile bumpers. Looking at my VIN is has the option B16 "EXHAUST TIP" and 4U4 "RADIATOR GRILLE WITH CENTER STAR" included which is probably why they are there.

@w212_E400s if you want I can get the parts list from my rear bumper and exhaust tips. I suspect only the botton trim is different.
