Slight Jerk When Shifting from D or R to N – W212 E250 Diesel 2014
I’m experiencing a slight but noticeable jerk/jolt in my 2014 Mercedes W212 E250 CDI (Diesel) when shifting the gear from D (Drive) or R (Reverse) into N (Neutral).
To clarify:
- There is no jerk when shifting from P to N, N to D, or N to R.
- The jerk only happens when coming from D or R into N.
Here’s what I’ve already done:
- Engine mounts and transmission mount replaced
- Transmission fluid and filter changed
Despite that, the issue remains. The car otherwise drives fine, shifts smoothly in all gears, and there are no fault codes.
Has anyone else experienced this or have any idea what could be causing it? Is it normal for this model or a sign of something deeper?
Any input would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Inspect/Replace the center bearing on your prop.shaft.
Just to reiterate, there’s still no jerk when going from P to N, or N to D/R — only when coming from D or R.

Tranny & mounts have been serviced.
Going down the line:
Inspect drive shaft
rear differential flange bearing freeplay
