Hi - We connect our battery to a tender nightly. Long story (which some may appreciate): The algorithm for recharging the battery doesn't work well if one is only taking short trips. Battery failed me once. Maybe the dealer can install new update, but not sure and don't want to pay. So we just use the tender, which is not a big deal but we leave the battery cover off.

Our mechanic keeps nagging to put in on. Why? Finally he said that fumes can enter the cab.

Your thoughts?

 

Isn't the battery cover as you call it the cabin air box? couldn't you just connect the charger to the jumper post and ground posts?

 

Does your car have auto start/stop?

You don't have to take off the "Battery Cover," as Pierre wrote to connect tender to charger to positive jumper post and ground negative, any part of body.

 

Connect a set of sae terminals to the battery, run it to a convenient point to connect your charger at will. Why muck about with digging to get to the battery?

My car is RHD , but all the same.

DO NOT remove the airbox on top of battery, that airbox allows your AC to suck in FRESH air from wiper plastic cowling instead of hot and smelly engine bay air.

This is the fresh air flow into AC blower, if flap is set as FRESH and not CIRCULATION.
This air box on top of the battery is also a rain water separator, mind you.



When you remove and re-install the airbox on top of the battery, do be very careful as you could miss the 4 "landing" latches in green circles and ruin the seal at the airbox.

Many missed this 4 locking latch receiver and airbox then never seat well and tight. Air box is to "float" above battery, with this 4 latch support.











The proper installation of airbox has a simple technique to maintain the grey seal to not be damaged in anyway.
The top of the airbox is to be 1cm away from firewall, this way the grey seal do not get rubbed while you "park" the airbox 4 latches.
When 4 latches engaged properly and airbox is now "floating", we then pushed the airbox into the firewall.

I even used marker now for ease of "aiming" , as all these are black plastics and unless you work in very bright open air, me old eyes doesn't help me ...LOL

Inspect your airbox seal integrity, they will wear our or becomes gooey when and if your engine bay is oily filthy.

When engine has oil leaks and ignored, the amount of oil vapor they release into engine bay air is massive and will do damages to foam/seal and the like.

A "thingER" (to the best of my understanding) has a projection included...in a sentence, for instance....

When I was young I was taught to hold my thinger steady so that I do not pee on the floor.....

You got a firm handle with automatic tender connected to jump points, not directly bypassing B95 LIN sensor.

Drained batteries & slow starter.... not for you.
