MB genuine parking brake pad kit is awesome

Sharing..........

I did try this piece of sh-iet brand : RIDEX
I did not expect it to be sh-iet, until I compared it to a brand new MB genuine parking brake set...which I bought to complement the new Brembo rear rotor disc.

.
RIDEX, below

Ridex,below

At 1 final click to last click of parking brake lever engagement, the Ridex can produce only 75ish Nm of holding force, even after I bedded the pads.

The MB genuine one, at the same 1 final click to last click will produce 170 Nm easy...wow !!!

.

The parking brake kit gets all new components.

Also the MB genuine pad is more abrassive and overall a bit thicker perhaps 0.75mm each pad overall , abrassive as proven from the one original to the car and the 2nd one I had some years later.
Now I am on my third one. I can't use the 2nd one (used) on the new Brembo rotor disc. I want virgin to virgin surface.

I said MB genuine one is thicker because I can feel it on my leg when actuating the parking brake, it is harder to press than when using Ridex.
The MB genuine pad to new Brembo rotor disc, no need much bedding too, its bitey from the start...wow.
This is my first time I feel virgin rotor disc to virgin parking brake pad.

Now I can set the parking brake pad to be super quiet, just super minor touch to rotor disc when parking brake not engaged.

.

At full engagement of parking brake, it exceeded 200Nm of grip. My torque sensor can only do 200Nm.
Due to servo action of drum brake type, only 1 pad will get the super minor touch when wheel rotates to forward direction while paring brake not engaged.

=============

I am also testing new type of anti-seize as corrossion protection. This is super high temp for my exhaust bolt. 1,400C ( 2,562F) rated
This white Weicon is not as oily-sticky like the silver color Loctite anti-seize LB 8150 I been using which is only 870C ( 1,600F ) rated
Note : My front oxygen sensor temperature can hit above 900C if I pushed the engine hard.

This white color Weicon is easy to remove and clean, unlike crazy sticky Loctite LB 8150

Corossion at wheel bearing hub to rotor = vibration and difficult to remove the rotor from wheel hub.
Since I have no winter salt, so far the Loctite LB 8150 been the best..

The 1,400C rated Weicon is 4x more expensive than the Loctite. Hence I bought the smallest size one

Time will tell on the corossion protection the white Weicon can provide.
I suspect it can't be as good as Loctite for its adhesion to metal, if not on a thread.

You’ve been through three sets of parking brake shoes? I would think a set would last 100,000 miles, if not forever. How many miles are on your car? Is this for your E400? Have you been drifting?

Well, first one original to the car looks so ugly , rusty yada yada.
I hate ugly rusty looking brake pad set, even parking ones.

2021 condition

.

.

2022 I bought new parking brake set. To make it look less ugly

.

Ugly becomes prettier a bit...

Now prettier

==========

This year, this month......I replaced the rear rotor disc, thus new parking brake pad ( and new rear caliper brake pads ) is a must. Total reset of the mating surface. Best quietness and best grip.

My car can't drift, even with ESP off it does not allow drifting or any kind of massive prolonged wheel spin. Nanny is still there.
Also I have ABT-LSD from Quaife, both L / R tires grip is insane to the tarmac and wheel spin in the dry is more difficult now....yes sticky Pilot Sport 4 or 5 helps.
But my rear tire last only 20,000KM or 12,500 miles to its 1.6mm bald limit, its my throttle heavy foot habit.

I understand replacing the rotors, but do you do the parking brake shoes every time you replace the rotors?

I think I would need parking brake pad also new when rotor is new and brake pad new.
In fact piston seal kit new and new caliper pistons too. For best resullt.
40,000KM is minimum the rear rotor disc will last for me, that is 8-10 years of use...
So per 8-10 years to do all above is very fair.

But I guess my rear brake pad wont last 40,000KM, I replaced them at approx 60% used up, that was some years ago.
If I wait till brake pad wear sensor activated, maybe 40,000KM do able for the rear brake pad.

20,000KM of use eats up 5mm of brake pad friction material. I think 40,000KM is do-able for rear brake pads life.

Has anyone ever tried adjusting the parking brake cable, dealer wanted $275 for doing such adjustment
The brake seems sticky and is hard to un-engage at times, any suggestions?

Are you sure it’s not just the brake release? There’s lots of information about lubricating the foot activated parking brake mechanism that gets “sticky” for some reason.

Is $275 now the hourly rate?

silicon lubricant upgrade

This standard sticky release examplifies the amazin' grease used by many other systems:
  • brakes caliper slide pins!!
  • front struts bearings!!
  • sunroof guides
  • steering telescopic-tilting column
  • trunk pull-release
  • rear window shade
  • sliding cover bevarage holder
  • HVAC flap actuators
  • tilting side mirrors
  • windshield wipers geardrive
  • ......

This can be made good with high-temp silicon that does not evaporate unlike basic grease.

There are 4 "sliding" points for parking brake cable.
One on each end, at the parking brake itself (2) and the tee joint between Left and Right brake cable.... and the one at the foot pedal.
The racheting mechanism is only at the foot pedal and the pull release lever.... which is a suspect for un-engage at times.
Perhaps take a look there and see what could be the problem between the foot pedal and the pull release lever.
