Both Blind Spot Sensors

Both Blind Spot monitoring sensors, for my 2011 E350 Wagon, seems to be defective.

Replacement parts from MB (I beleive # 0009050110) are crazy expensive.

Has anyone tried to fix these sensors?
Any cheaper after market parts which will do the job?

Thanks

First, what is the issue with the sensors. These sensors can get wet at the seams of the molded body and can be sealed. They also turn off in certain circumstances such as when dirty, heavy rain, radio interference (more common with the prevalence of 5g towers on every street corner).

My independant MB shop told they are both defective, he couldn't communicate with them and they seemed all swollen from moisture intrusion.
I'm in Canada, where they use a lot of abrasive products on the road during winter.

Water soaked radars modules are 100% non-fixable.

aftermarket unlikely available...
You'll need a new "bumper harness" either front or rear.

Everybody else.... SILICONE RTV all your electrical connectors before water soaks passed defective harness seals.

Many available candidates:
  1. All 5x radar modules !!
  2. (Bumper parking sensors ? - Don't have)
  3. ISM selector $$$$
  4. Steering rack $$$$
  5. Ambient temp sensor !
  6. Rear bumber trunk kick sensor !
  7. (ABS sensors are A-OK!)
  8. A/C Compressor hookups !!
  9. Condenser Pressure sensor !!

When it poors... no problem.

Wonder what communication your MB expert are talk about as the blind spot sensors do not communicate with rest of the car. They are kind of independent sensors that just give you the warning or not. There is no coding with them either.

I had to replace mine on the passenger side and I first ordered one from eBay but it did not work. Then ordered one from a dealer for the crazy price and it is plug-and-play working as new.

I put a WalMart sensor ($80) on the passenger side of my ML a few years ago. While installing it I packed the socket with silicone grease to exclude water intrusion. Haven't had an issue with it.

I find it interesting about the master/slave function of the sensors. The left communicates to the right then the right communicates to the car. May be worth looking in to, if the issue is just with the right sensor.

I recommend everyone buy a Mercedes specific OBD scanner so they can try and look for the issues themselves. I'm interested in what the scanner is showing for faults with the sensors.

The inexpensive Launch creader obd scanner seems to be capable for most.

My MB dealer has them new for $620/each and mentions checking for current flashware after installation. Now thats expensive.

Theres alot on ebay being sold as refurbished/remanufactured. Wonder if thats true or just selling clones.

I would give a shot at fixing them. Remove and inspect them for water getting in. May even be a bad connection.

I've had my car perform the stunt described here as "ACTIVE Blind-Spot": car actively escaped rear and also side collision extremely well FOUR distinct times.

Absolutely smart computer stunt over CAN-Bus.
It doesn't "just beeps"... car actively reacts to preserve distances front / sides / back.
OMG - Feature pays for itself.

These bumper modules are setup to get swamped by rain projections...The enclosure seam is two hot-melted half-shells.
Harness connector is too cheap!!

I doubt any scanner can connect with a ghosted module.
New harness necessary as shown in eBay listing.
