Speedometer shot new E220d

Last week, I had a chance to drive the brand new W213 E220d. The car is equipped with the new DIESEL-engine, OM654, which is a BLAST to drive! Of course it sounds like a Diesel, but it totally (!!!!) lacks vibration and drone! It is just incredible. Together with the 9g-Tronic you will even not be aware, when the car is coasting (and therefore the engine idles) and when it is applying power. It is just silky smooth!

So I went to the autobahn and went WOT!
0-152mph!

(Note: Speedometer shows km/h!
100km/h = 62mph
160km/h = 100mph
200km/h = 124mph
240km/h = 150mph)

Enjoy!

As you might notice: At around 210 a really bad wind noise starts... I hope Mercedes will deal with that!?!

very cool, thanks for posting. car seemed stable all the way to top speed - as you'd expect.

The real difference to the W212 E-Class (which I own as an 2012 E550 4matic) is:

The car is -at least- as stable as the W212 at high speeds, however, on the other hand it turns a lot better! When entering a corner, the front axle seems to be tight to the ground. A lot less understeer. The rear turns in in a way that surprised me. At the first time I thought it would brake loose! But it does not. The W213 is extremely agile while still being high speed stable! My guess is: The electronics (ESP) help the car turning in a lot! But it works really great!

Thanks for sharing that observation. It will be interesting to see how it performs for road tests. Can't wait to test drive one myself.

I did a full review - unfortunately in German . Just one more note: It is pretty easy to get >50mpg even around town in this car, IF you are willing to
a) use Eco-Mode and
b) take advantage of coasting

The car is significantly more efficient than the E250 BlueTec W212 while being faster also!
