Extended Warranty for 2017 E300
Greetings,
First post in this forum. I got a 2017 E300 last Friday and have been researching on the subject of extended warranty and prepaid maintenance. I found a few names mentioned in the forums and have left messages with those on the list. Aside from a short text message from one person, I got no reply from anyone else. Thus, I have the following questions.

I found a few names mentioned in the forums and have left messages with those on the list. Aside from a short text message from one person, I got no reply from anyone else. Thus, I have the following questions.
- Could it be these folks were taking the July 4th weekend off and therefore did not reply?
- The Financial Svc. Mgr. at the dealer gave me the following numbers and said they were $100 above their costs. Do they seem legit to you?
- 84/100K Ext. War.: $3750
- 4Yr/10K Maintenance: $1875
- Tire/Wheel 60mo: $1150 ($50 deduct.)
- Appearance 7yr: $899
- Windshield 7Yr: $599

4 year maintenance seems high compared to this from MB themselves. Someone said they paid $1,475 for 4 years from MB of Austin. Be patient - those folks should respond after the holiday. If not, sent another message.

I called Dan Boone of Austin MB and was quoted $2950 for the 4yr/100K and 1475 for the Maintenance packages. Seemed very reasonable.
I wonder if the appearance packages are provided by 3rd party?

Now you know the dealer is blowing smoke. Btw, the extended warranty is 3y/100k, not 4y/100k. It adds 3 years to the factory warranty. Figured it was a typo since you put 84 months in your first post.
Not sure about other protections as I am not familiar with them. However, the finance folks at all dealers should be the same. If they won't sell it to you out of state, then it is probably not an official MB product and something the dealers get through 3rd parties.

There are more MBELW options here.
Prepaid maintenance cannot be refunded if you don't keep the car. It doesn't always make financial sense to get it for the first 4 services - i.e. the 'premier' prepaid package. There are plenty of threads on the subject but a recent one here goes into some price comparisons versus paying a la carte for the first 4 services. Best use of prepaid maintenance is later on when more expensive 5y/50k and 6y/50k services are coming up. You can always buy the 'star' prepaid maintenance later.
- 1-year/75,000-mile Extended Limited Option
- 1-year/100,000-mile Extended Limited Option
- 2-year/75,000-mile Extended Limited Option
- 2-year/100,000-mile Extended Limited Option
- 3-year/75,000-mile Extended Limited Option
- 3-year/100,000-mile Extended Limited Option

Keep in mine the extended warranties are negotiable. I was able to get 1000 to 100s off all the extended warranty. My local dealer only offer me these warranties.
Gap
Wheel/tire
Interior
Extended Manufacture warranty
Dint/ ding protection
If you want me to, I can look the pricing info up and get back to you with what he quoted me. Keep in mind that Mercedes does not Perform all the services, they do use 3rd party shops which will cause a difference in how low they will drop the price.
If they're not offering you a unlimited mile warranty for the Extended manufacture warranty then you need to start asking questions. All new and CPO cars come with this awesome perk.

I'm interested in the Wheel & Tire and 1ST Class Appearance (exterior, interior). It'd be great to know the cost and your location.
I'm not sure if I understand the part about "unlimited mileage warranty." Do you mean it's a 3rd party package?
Thanks

Car Care (interior) $650
Road Hazard (tire/wheel) $1060
Paintless dent $550
No the unlimited mileage warranty is from mercede's itself. I was saying some of the warranties above are serviced a 3rd party so this could effect the cost depending on who provides the service in your local area.
North lake Mercedes Benz in Charlotte, NC
I thought unlimited mileage was for CPO cars and does not apply to ELW?

I am going to purchase the tire protection for the E300. My dealer is quoting $500 more than the above quote. What have others paid for the tire protection plan?

"First Class Wheel and Tire Protection includes coverage for all road hazards. First Class Wheel and Tire Protection Plus provides coverage for all road hazards plus cosmetic wheel repairs for minor scratches."
Make sure you know which one you are getting a quote for. Hopefully, your dealer is quoting the "Plus" coverage and the previous quote is for the standard coverage.

There are two tiers of protection:
"First Class Wheel and Tire Protection includes coverage for all road hazards. First Class Wheel and Tire Protection Plus provides coverage for all road hazards plus cosmetic wheel repairs for minor scratches."

I have begun my search for best pricing on MB First Class Wheel and Tire Protection Plus. Any leads would be helpful.
As to whether you need that protection, it depends on a number of factors including whether roads have pot holes and other road hazards (e.g., winter in the Northeast) and if you have a higher than normal likelihood of getting a nail or screw in a tire. I have had to repair wheels and replace tires too often so the insurance makes sense for me.
I suspect the tires will need to be replaced before 36k miles.

My advice is to put all that money back in the bank. These schemes are simply huge money makers for the dealers.
The physical cost of some Japanese cars are as low as $45 for 100,000 mile extended warranty. MB is probably in the medium three figures, being not quite as bullet proof. What the dealer does is collect your $3750, buys re-insurance for $750 and puts $3000 cash in his pocket. Pretty slick game, if you ask me.
These "products" are a principle source of dealership revenue and simply are a play on consumer fear and ignorance. To look at it another way, if you can afford a $60-70,000 car, what is a one in 5000 chance of needing to put another $10,000 into it six or eight years later? Would it be a financial problem? It is an acceptable risk, is what it is. I will sit at that card table any day: I have bought two Audi and three MB over the past 30 years and sold at around 100k miles with never a major problem.
As for discount, pre-paid maintenance, 10k "A" service should cost $150 or so, 20k "B" service around $300 or about $900 for four years/40k miles. Where does the other $900 go? You guessed it, straight into dealer's pocket.
i have always just told the Service Writer that I am happy to pay a competitive price or go somewhere else. At times I have gone to independents when the quote was ridiculous. After a couple of walk-aways, your regular service writer eventually becomes more flexible, at least at the two dealerships local to me. Don't be afraid to insist on fair prices or to find a local independent for routine service. The point is you do have a choice, just by checking YELP and making a couple phone calls these days. BTW, my latest dealer "A" service was $99 on a coupon.
Tire protection? I would follow these tips first: Don't drive on 40 or especially 35 profile tires (i.e. use 17 (or 18) inch rims, not 19 or 20's with 40 or 35 series tire profile). Most likely time to get nails is in the last 20% of tread life, so if you do not want nails, don't run the tires all the way down, and especially in rainy climates where tread depth is an essential safety issue. Tires should be replaced every 36-48 months regardless of tread wear. (In Germany it is mandatory 36 months.) It may be more prudent to use the money you don't spend on "protection" to keep good tires on the car when it is time.

Extended warranties are always a ripoff, unless you are certain you are going to drive more than the warranty allotment while you own the vehicle. If you are going to keep your car after the warranty expires, buy it then. It will cost the same at the beginning or at the end of the warranty. Furthermore, pay it cash do not finance it. Prepaid maintenance, on the other hand, is actually a good deal since Mercedes dealer maintenance is otherwise ridiculously expensive. In some places, as in my little Wisconsin town it may be hard to even get your oil changed since some lube shops will not do anything to an MB for fear of screwing it up and ending up with a very big bill.
