my car started itself!
my e class e220 2017 reg started couple times when i was no where near the car, once i was at the petrol station locked my doors went to pay for fuel walking back to my car just to find its started and the doors are unlocked, second time i was at home and the cars started it self in the garage.
its been with the dealers for over a week and i get a call today for someone to tell me there were no faults found.
has anyone heard of this before?
trust me i am not losing my marbles.

Gremlins/it has been hacked! Actually, never seen that before. Do you remote start app on your phone?

I think he's based in the uk, we don't get remote start as a function here. It rarely ever gets cold enough or hot enough to warrant it and is probably blocked due to nanny state laws. Hybrids get remote aircon functions though.

Based on my lifelong experiences with electronic gremlins on BMWs and a 2003 W211 with keyless go that kept cutting out on the motorway even though they key was with me, I realised German cars did not earn their reputations because they had reliable electronics. I can open and close my doors/trunk myself thank you very much, I can steer my car myself and Ive been managing pretty well all these years getting into the car before I start it.
I wont have any new electronic features on my car unless it's been around for at least 10 years which is enough time to sort out the gremlins except it's a Japanese car.

I suspect this is auto stop start. You've likely stepped out of the car with the engine in auto stop mode and not noticed it start back up.

I think that cant happen. As soon as you unbuckle your seatbelt the engine restarts, a quite annoying issue since you would hope it would stay off when you are parking. I dont know if that is true on the new E.

THIS HAPPENS TO MY BRAND NEW E-350!!
I’m so glad I found somebody else that this is happening to because my car is at Fletcher Jones right now for that very reason! Becuase I can’t get it to do it for them to see it with their own eyes they’re telling me it’s “impossible.” I cannot control when this happens it happens completely RANDOMLY. It is extremely frustrating because it has happened MULTIPLE TIMES. Please note- My keys and my phone will be in my purse no where near me, and I will be standing with nothing in my hands in my car will just START. DID YOU EVER FIGURE OUT WHY THIS WAS HAPPENING OR HOW TO FIX IT? I will be anticipating your response.

I have the Mercedes Me app on my iPhone 14 and I can tell you that in my case it’s not the car or the app it’s the phone. I can get out, lock the car and when I take the first step into the house it unlocks, or the trunk opens or the car will start itself. Following Apple advice I have deleted it and then reinstalled it and it still does the same. The last time I talked to Mercedes they said the only way to be really sure it doesn’t happen is to delete the app and then not reinstall it. Not a good alternative to me!

Mercedes Benz starting on its own!
DeutscheBenz726 First and foremost thank you for the reply! Very interesting about the app possibly being the culprit. I notice it typically happens shortly after I park the car, turn it off, and lock it as well. Since you have disabled the app has it happened again? Has it been long enough to notice that the problem is actually gone and it is, in fact, the Mercedez app? I used to utilize the Mercedes app but realized I did not use it often enough, so stopped paying for it and using it roughly 7 months ago now. But like you, I also think this is a horrible resolution. Not really a resolution at all that actually fixes the problem! I find it frustrating the way the dealerships refused to address the problem and continue to say “they’ve never seen this and it is impossible to happen!” I’ve never seen this either and I have owned Mercedez my whole life but it’s possible because it’s happening. 🤦🏼♀️ I will be tenacious about resolving this matter, bringing my Mercedes to the dealership multiple times a week if necessary to see if I can get the car to do it so they can “ see it with their own eyes.” This way, they will then be obligated to address it under warranty. When I get any more information on this, I will retort back to this forum so everybody who is dealing with the same problem could be educated on what is actually going on and how to possibly FIX THIS!! 👍🏻 -Kayla

Just curious if double clicking the lock button on the key fob prevents the app from getting ahead of itself to remote start/ unlock/ etc. I have a habit of double clicking my key fob to lock all the time, so I’ve never faced this issue. Also my subscription expired recently, so that’s one more failsafe against this phenomenon.

aks_19_ak I think I always double click the lock button Instinctively for security and assurance. 🤣 like you, I also failed to renew my subscription along time ago, as I didn’t find it necessary or utilize it at all. So the whole idea about the app makes me wonder since I don’t even have the app subscription activated. It’s very frustrating thing. It’s clearly a fault that is happening with mercedez, and a dangerous one at that. It worries me more that the dealerships are so quick to respond with saying it’s impossible, and they never heard anything like it before! Makes me worry even more because it’s clearly a big problem if it’s something that nobody’s ever heard of! I am eager to get to the bottom of it because unfortunately, problems like this don’t just go away, they get worse! 🤷♀️🙌🏻
