Build-to-Order Unavailable
Since not having the 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster is a deal-breaker for me, I was seeking advice on what to do. Is it worth waiting for the call? Did it happen to any of you that you could not place a build-to-order due to parts availability that later became available? Instead, is this some weird way of the dealer avoiding selling me a build-to-order because they are too much hassle for them? Does it help to talk to other MB dealers?
I have no problem waiting a few weeks, but my trade-in value is going down with every month that passes, plus whatever number of months it takes to go from placing order to receiving the car (6-8 weeks according to the dealer, but looking through posts in this forum, it looks like it could be substantially longer), so it would be good to know if I am just waiting for Godot...
Thanks in advance for any ideas!

Had I not noticed, I would now be happily waiting for a car I would have to refuse to buy, which seems to be what happened to you!
They may be only out of stock for P2, as I would guess P3s have priority, so hopefully your car will be correctly manufactured very soon, fingers crossed!
Here's the list of specifications with a couple of annotations. Do let me know if you need any further details.
Model: E400C (RWD)
Paint: 988 - Diamond Silver Metallic (I know this is rare, they first said it was not available, then they said it was, so not sure if it is a problem. I might consider Iridium Silver or Selenite Grey if this is a real sticky point)
Upholstery: 951 Designo Black/Titanium Grey Pearl Nappa Leather
Options:
P02: Premium 2 package including 12.3" Widescreen Instrument Cluster (only Q02 without the digital cluster is available according to the dealer, and they have no idea when P02 will become available)
P62: Designo Black/Titanium Grey Pearl Interior Package
321: AMG-Line Package
RTD: 19" AMG Twin 5-Spoke Wheels with staggered width rear and front (they said that this option is also not available, only RTK with equal wheel widths, I might reluctantly go for that and get the wider rear wheels capable of accommodating the 275/40R19 tires as aftermarket or something)
R01: High-Performance Tires (I would prefer all-seasons, but was told "R02: All-Season Tires" will force the RTK equal-width wheel option)
068: Wheel locks
218: Rearview Camera
401: Heated and Ventilated Front Seats
677: Lowered Suspension with Selective Damping
736: Natural Grain Black Ash Wood
737: Center Console in Natural Grain Black Ash Wood
811: Burmester High End 3D Surround Sound System
883: Soft-Close doors
L5C: Multifunction Sport Steering Wheel
Thanks again!

The extra screen was to blame. The real problem with my config is that the extra screen was required for P3 at the time, so there was no way to get an E-Class with DrivePilot/Distronic on it, which is the only reason I'd even consider a Mercedes.
Lots of frantic phone calls were made by myself to my MB corporate case manager, and the dealer called many people, including to Germany. After a few hours, it was arranged. Lots of things transpired which made it happen. It's my understanding that the dealer is delaying shipment of a couple of S-Classes to free up parts for my P3 E300. Even then, November was the first month which had an opening. IIRC, I think I ordered this car in August.
My problem was that I'm replacing a defective 2015 E350, and I was coming up on running out of warranty. My car STILL doesn't work right and is getting worse, to the point that I don't feel safe driving it, so it's been parked and I'm borrowing an S-Class until my replacement E300 arrives.

Big thank you to all who weighed in on this thread, I was seriously considering giving up on the car... And for those waiting for their build-to-orders, fingers crossed they will arrive very soon!

As an aside, my E300's made it to the port in Germany on Friday, waiting to be put on a ship. The dealership's going to let me know when it's on the ship AND which ship it'll be on so I can track the ship as it makes its way to the USA.
