I think it’s wax oil - protects from corrosion

This would be my guess as well, anti-corrosion.

That's my though anti corrosion especially with steel and aluminum dissimilar metals.
Seems sloppy however.

I agree: it appears like a anti-corrosion application. My son's G63 had similar product dripping all over from his undercarriage. The dealer wiped the excess, but they did not remove all of it because it is applied at production time and it is used for corrosion control.

I just checked my 2019 CLS and all the bolt attachments are cleaned. I would ask the dealer what it is and why is there. Very
unusual to see such application.

Yes, cavity preservation wax used to prevent corrosion. Usually not on painted bolts but if there's a chance of the metal being exposed, they apply something to keep it from rusting. It's ALL OVER under the GTS, and G wagons.

Yep Cosmoline. The cars are shipped with the goo from the factory for the journey across the ocean, but should have been cleaned off at the VPC or by the dealer before delivery to the OP.

Agreed. I hadn't looked but I will tonight and then will know how to 'address' it if possible. This forum is fantastic. It's like a therapy group for OCD except without any of us having a hope of actually improving!

I love this. And being a charter member of the OCD, makes me feel right at home here. Scuse me, there's a bug splattered on my windshield so I have to go down to the garage and take the towel neatly folded in my trunk, and my bottle of non-alcohol glass cleaner to clean it off.

On my car it looked like they spilled the stuff under the hood. How in the hell did they miss that at the prep? I don’t think they lifted the hood. The new cabriolet is clean as a whistle. I bought the cars from two different dealers. I guess i know which dealer ill use for service in the future.

Both our cars (three actually, if you count the now traded E300) came perfectly clean inside the engine bay, with no trace of the goop.

Looks much better. I have also found d it in the I side of my wheels. They cleaned the front of wheels but not behind spokes.
really a bad delivery from Mercedes Benz of Wilmington. This and other issues. Water spots i do t even think they waxed it. 70k car with 400 miles needs a $300 10 hour detail.
very unacceptable

That's rather amusing. While the cosmolene certainly won't hurt a car, it should be cleaned off during new vehicle prep. Neither of our cars came with the goop left.

Cant believe Benz said it's normal. Looks like hell. Took like ten minutes or less to clean it off. There is no reason for that stuff to be there once the car arrives at the dealer and the dealer prep guys should be removing that stuff. That is their job.
