2018 S560 and 2019 E450 Wagon.
Looked at the new E53 AMG at the Benz dealer today
They are finally getting in the new E53 AMG's. I took a look at a lunar blue one they had in the show room at Ft. Myers Mercedes. Was not that impressed. It really looks no different than my E450 Cabriolet and stickers for 15 grand more. It does have more Horsepower, like 67 HP more, if I want that I can get more than that with a tune on my E450. The brakes looked the same, the tires etc. I have the AMG line option on my car so it makes it close to a AMG only less HP. Glad I went with the E450, very happy with it.

W213 Night Edition 220d. (ML250 SLK350AMG)
A 450 is more than enough
Here in Australia and in some markets when the GLE coupe was known as the GLE 450 they ditched that model and rebadged / relaunched as GLE 43 , so i dont see much difference between the 2

No,it took a lot of wisdom to get the 450 wagon over the e63s wagon, especially in comparison to the list factor, but I'm blown away by how elegant and sporty and comfortable and responsive the 450 is.
And like you said, if demand for power goes up, we can chip it and at least make it essentially an e43 overnight (alas, the 53 is the new inline 6 engine so probably harder that).
Congrats again and enjoy the ride. Counting the days until "break-out"!

Im glad you've come to peace with it. Your AMG sport package makes it almost identical save the performance boost. But candidly, I think that we let ourselves get taken advantage of too easily by marketers. What is the true point of ridiculous HP. In the US in particular, we're capped at 70 mph or less in most states. Acceleration lasts 1 second less for 15k more? Besides 0 to 60 in around5 secs for the 450 seems more than reasonable. It would have been as fast as a BMW M3 20 hears ago (which I had). And then I wonder what we actually give up on rough roads with AMG suspensions and 20 inch wheels. They look cool but my wife always complained about bumps in my 911.

No, I'm talking more value for money. Again, fully loaded, it was a goodly chunk more. And, AMGs plummet in resale. I mean, whoa.
But @rbrylaw, you are right! Thank goodness MB makes them so anyone can have whatever they want. And again, it was hard not to choose the AMG wagon when I got mine. I mean super tough. Man, I need a cold shower!

I love sports cars! But I'm really just questioning what we're getting here. I mean, practically, the car is a heavy pig. It would be lost on the track or on any country road versus a Miata.

Would it be worth over 50k? You see what I did there? Now we're talking about 'value'. I get it, for you, it was worth 18k. For me, not so much. I'd rather have a 911 also.
But again, don't misinterpret my sentiment: I am delighted that they offer all these cars. Holy moly. It's a bonanza for the car lover. Do you remember the meager choices in the 80s and 90s? Candidly, all of the automakers have really upped their games...

@Germancar1 , I read a few reviews just now. This one from TopSpeed really got my juices going:
I'll have to sit in a holding pattern on "value" until after I drive one, that is, whenever they arrive stateside for a test drive. My dealer only had the E43. But man, how wicked does that description sound?!
The electric auxiliary compressor builds up a high charge pressure without any delay, which provides a faster increase in torque for acceleration until the large exhaust gas turbocharger kicks in. As a result, the engine provides a more dynamic response and eliminates the lag usually associated with turbocharged engines. The hybrid system will also return better fuel economy compared to gasoline-only drive-trains.

Pricing
E450 4matic 69,800
+ AMG Line 2,500
+ Premium Package 2,650
+ 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster 850
+ Air Body Control 1,900
= 77,700
E53 80,350 (standard 4matic)
Incl. AMG Line
Incl. Premium Package
Incl. 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster
Incl. Air Body Control
= 80,350
Difference 2,650 Is this a big deal?
E450 0-60 5.1 sec
E 53 0-60 4.4 sec ... Well worth 2,650
In my configuration its 91,310 vs 98,635 (I think my car its the same car as in Ft.Myers) due to the AMG Nappa Leather, AMG Carbon Fiber trim and 20" AMG wheels. This options are not available for the E450.

Take a test drive. I did it with the E450 and E53. Switch to sport+ and let it go. Its just a very big wow. Brought the E53 the same day and can't wait in the morning to drive it. You have to have the U78 AMG Performance Exhaust. What a smooth and comfortable car in comfort and and super sporty in S+.

Not sure where you're getting your pricing from, but the E450 4Matic Coupe price starts at $62,300, not $69,800. I understand you're trying to make the difference between an E53 and an E450 insignificant, but it most definitely isn't. For me, I wouldn't want or need Air Body Control, further making the E53 way more expensive.

Fair enough, I guess. I'm sure your cab is amazing. For me however, the added cost would be wasteful and yes, I could afford to buy one. To me, it's the value of diminishing returns and the E53 isn't worth the added cost.....for me.

Enjoy. E450 or E53 is a great car. Style, performance, ambient lighting, ... what a great car. I drove the the E350 cab until 2016, the new A238 was not available at this time. Lease a c300 coupe for the 2 year the waiting time. Now I'm super happy. I visit the dealer ship for a custom order of the E450cab until he told me...Hey we just got the E53 in today, want to do a test drive? ...

And I hope you're loving the E53. The whole point of our cars, is to put a smile on our faces every time we tap the start button and put our foots on the accelerator!

Just to throw a bit of a curve in there but I also had an E53 coupe on order. Ended up going to the dealer this past weekend and drove a E53, E450 and a C63. The 53 felt great just very heavy and a little less sporty than I had thought. Surprisingly, this year the C seems to have caught up in terms of technology and that 63 drove amazing. Ended up being almost exactly the same price as the E53 so i changed my order to that.
But it all comes down to personal preference and ride quality vs sportiness.
