I don't know if I'm doing something wrong or not. I checked off the setting to fade audio down when announcements are made, but I don't notice any difference at all. The volume levels remain the same. Whenever I switched to Car play, using googles maps and such, it works perfectly.
How come I can't get it to work on the MB NAV? I usually play my media through my I phone.

AFAIK when playing media through your phone, the phone's audio settings are used.

But it mutes perfectly well playing through the car play system, as it did on my Cadillac ATS CUE system. I used my iphone on a new Mustang car rental, and it muted as it should. So I don't think the media settings on the phone have anything to do with itOriginally Posted by ua549

FWIW, my new 2019 C300 with Comand also does not mute music/news for NAV announcements. It does mute when I push the voice button in order to use voice control. I will be interested in insights from experienced users. I compensate by making my NAV announcements much louder. It does mute for phone calls.

Maybe try turning up the notifications volume some and see what happens.

I've tried that....just makes the announcements louder than the music, which is then really annoying...like trying to talk over the music....it never lowers the level of the music as it should...at least in my car. Cannot believe the system is designed this way.Originally Posted by 2012 merc amg

Are you only using CarPlay? Or Command? If CarPlay, which navigation app? Are you using the audio for music exclusively from your phone or from your Mercedes? If from the phone, stored music or a streaming service and if so which one?

Using Apple CarPlay I played music stored on my iPhone, connected with wire, and used WAZE. When navigation instructions came on, the music was quieted, not silenced the graphics showed the song playing. WAZE voice was heard over the music. I am not certain if the phone's settings or Comand settings caused this.

Car Play works fine...it's when you use the MB COMMAND system apart from Car Play that doesn't fade the audio for NAV announcements. In other words, the MB NAV system in conjunction with playing media from one's iphone. Can't believe no one else has this problem or knows a solution.

Not sure I get how you are playing music from your iPhone without using CarPlay?

I played around with it some the other day and I get what you are saying. There is no way to fade out the music. I actually prefer it the way it is though. You just set the gps volume low enough so it does not blare over the music. But you the box that is checked for fade out does not seem to be doing it’s job. I think this is a software bug The software bug that bothers me more is shifting into reverse when eco is on in engine shut down and engaging the starter after the car is in reverse causing I shutter. I can’t believe no one is not bothered by this glitch more than other things.

I'm not bothered about any shudder caused by Eco Start/Stop because I NEVER use it. When I start my car, I use the selector to set up my pre-programed settings for comfort/sport/sport+, steering, etc., then immediately turn off Eco Start/Stop. My 2016 C300 permitted the Eco feature to be permanently off when using the program selector, but that no longer works on the W213. Originally Posted by 2012 merc amg

That’s pretty much what I do. That reverse shudder can’t be good for the driveline and with eco off the car shifts into reverse smooth as silk.

At least you confirm what I've been saying. Have you noticed this same phenomena on other Mercedes you've owned? Originally Posted by 2012 merc amg

Agree, simple enough to turn off. I thought about getting one of those OBD plug tuners on ebay to eliminate it but it's simple enough to just turn it off each time, normally around town I change the drive setting to sport plus anyhow in which case I don't even have to bother shutting it off as it is off in this setting anyhow. These cars are fun to drive in sport plus.Originally Posted by rbrylaw

I'll have to test the music muting during NAV announcements. Not for nothing, but I actually mute the NAV announcements (wish there was a way to do so permanently). However, tonight on the way home, I'll leave them enabled and see if the music gets quieter or mutes or does nothing.
Meanwhile, to confirm, this is while using COMAND NAV and then also listening to the radio, sat radio or a media card, correct? Or, and pardon the confusion, is this while listening to music through the smartphone via a Bluetooth connection?

I'm pretty sure in my 2015 S550 and 2018 E63 AMG it was like this too. I still can't really figure out what that checked fadeout box really does? Personally I actually prefer it the way it is though as I don't like music fading in and out and putting notifications right over the music with the volume low on the notifications is fine with me. I absolutely hate it when I'm on Distronic and the reminder comes on with the red steering wheel and it fades out my music. You know what I'm gonna uncheck that fade out box and see what happens with this, maybe thats what it's for? In my other cars I was able to defeat the hands on reminder so I was not bothered by having to touch the steering wheel every 1 minute, not in this car, they must have changed a lot of the software with the Distronic. It's worth the trade off though because the Distronic is so much better in this 2019 than the previous years I've had it. In my 2018 the Distronic was constantly trying to take exits off the highway, this was unacceptable. Originally Posted by rustybear3

It's only on the built in command Nav. Using a apple car play nav app like Waze or Google maps will mute the music each time I believe.

I have read something about a radio-mute problem with navigation on a German car forum. I looked it up and I'm not sure that it would solve your problem (there can be some difference between European and US-cars), but maybe it's worth to explore.Originally Posted by rustybear3

The forum talks about a bug in the software that can be solved as follows:
- enter the dealer menu (pushing down the controller for 10 seconds in the main car-menu)
- select 1 - Volume Seperation
- select 1 - Navigation Guidance
- change settings to desired value (0= no mute, 24 = max.mute)
- press back key
- select "END" at the bottom
Be aware, I have not done this myself. I have just copied and translated it from the German forum. But maybe it works for you.

So I kind of confirmed this but don't know how. I was listening to the radio, and my phone connected via Bluetooth as usual. I didn't change anything except to enter a destination in NAV on COMAND not through Android auto. The music on the radio definitely did not lower when directions were announced I hanged input to SD card and same thing. Then I went into settings, audio and unclicked the lower radio during announcement. Then I enabled it again. Now the NAV announcements were accompanied by lower music while navigating and then got louder again afterwards. I'm guessing it's a bug.
Fwiw, I prefer that the music stays the same level.

Good find, ya, definitely sounds like a bug. Try doing that Rusty if thats what you prefer, I guess I'll leave mine alone as I like it how it is.

Next time I drive, I'll try unchecking then checking the fade setting to see if it solves it. Various musical pieces have different volume levels, depending on the recording. So at times the NAV announcement is too soft to hear if it doesn't fade out the music properly. Hopefully this solves it; I hope if it does, I don't have to go into settings and do this every time I drive.Originally Posted by nycebo
