The mbraceŽ Secure package

Let's say you don't subscribe and have an accident and need help. You push the button anyway, and mBrace will answer (cause it's still connected).
I have a difficult time believing they will not help you, because you are not a paid customer. Heaven forbid a seriously injured person dies resulting from refused service. Let's say you sell the car on and the next owner doesn't know how the system works, has an accident and pushes the button..........
I'm not suggesting that you be a piker and not pay for the service and expect it anyways. But eventually someone is bound to report failure to provide aid to a local TV station, which bounces the resulting story to one of the networks, the ambulance chasers form a line on the right, etc. I wouldn't want to be the spokesperson for an auto company so dedicated to auto safety, yet not there when you need it the most....

Discuss.

I provided a response that I do pay for the service and "personally" think it's worth the expense. I honestly don't care if you feel it's a reasonable expense or not. At least use rational analogies if you don't feel it's a worthy cost.
Also, is it not a bit immoral for a car that is fully capable of calling for help to not do it because I refuse to submit to Mercedes penny pinching? If the car comes with the ability, it should do so, period. What about the less fortunate guy that buys my car 15 years from now that can't afford to pay the $200? Should he bleed to death because Mercedes and Verizon didn't get their 200 bucks?
Any cell phone can be used to call 911, regardless of payment status. Because it's the right thing to do. Mercedes prices the service at this level because they have coldly calculated that an adequate percentage of buyers will not want to regret bleeding to death for not paying it.
It is a rational analogy. You stated your reason for paying for it was "My life and the lives of my loved ones are well worth $200/year", which kinda implies that the service is worth as much as your life, which it clearly is not.
Right. And I provided my rationale for not buying it, which you attempted to invalidate, provoking a response from me.

Should I have an injury accident and can't get to my cellphone, I will push the call button and gladly pay the $200 renewal. If they refuse to help, I'll ask my attorney to discover why not.
If MB-USA had any marketing sense, they would price this at $50 a year, and have 800% more takers, doubling their revenue. But fast nickels vs slow dimes is not the Mercedes way.
