2017 E300 iphone problems

Hoping someone here can help me with the COMAND system on my 2017 E300.

The dealer just updated my maps and COMAND software and it doesn't seem any better than before the upgrade. My initial complaint was that I could not retrieve addresses from my Iphone contact list. i could make phone calls but I could not navigate to addresses in the contact list. Now that the system is upgraded I still can't get address info and now Apple carplay no longer appears in the home menu when I plug the phone into the usb port.

My first question - has anybody gotten this system to navigate to addresses in their Iphone contact list? It keeps telling me that the address is not complete even though it appears perfect in the Iphone. It worked once on my "Home" contact but then failed on later attempts.

Second question - Does anyone have any idea why carplay does not show up when I plug the phone into the carplay usb plug?

tIA, Mike.

I just learned that the carplay still works with my wife's Iphone 7 and my old Iphone 6 but does not work with my Iphone X. That doesn't concern me so much but the contact address is still a problem.

Pick and address that works from your wife's iPhone and put it into your iPhone. Nav is very fussy when it comes to address formats especially with abbreviations and punctuation. I get the same "address incomplete" error on several contact list entries in my Android phone. I alter the addresses slightly and they work.

I've experienced the same but after struggling for about a half hour I can't find any one format that works. I did get one address to work once or twice and later in the day it didn't work any more. I'm guessing that it had something to do with me connecting a second iphone to the car. The system is behaving very flaky.

Today I plan to remove all phones and address from teh car and starting fresh.

After going another round with the COMAND NAV system I've come to the conclusion that it is not very well capable of using addresses from the Iphone X contact list. I agree that it has to do with the way that the address is entered into your contact list but I don't believe that there is any one correct way to do it. The order of data entry seems to depend on the particular address.

The system seems to consistantly fail retrieving the street name and house number. I got one particular address to work by putting the name of the street first followed by the building number. I got another address to work by putting the building number first followed by the street name. And I could only get a third address to work by entering the street name and omitting the building number altogether. I tried using spaces between name and number and I tried using commas. The results of my testing were inconsistent and I am just about ready to give up and go to Apple Carplay to see if it works any better.

I'd love to hear from anyone who knows how to get COMAND to retrieve addresses from the Iphone contact list.

Mike..

Instead of relying on the phone OS to sync contacts with COMAND I simply send new contacts to COMAND using Mercedes me. The phone OS should not matter.

I like that, I haven't installed MMe yet and I wasn't aware that you could do that. I'll have to get the app and learn to use it.

wondering how you send new contacts to Comand using MercedesMe app. I can send a destination address from the app but see no option for sending a contact

I haven't installed Mercedes Me yet becasue of the terrible rating and reviews it has at the Apple store. I also don't see any mention of the address book or contacts in the app description.

On the bottom of my Send2Benz page is a link "select address from contacts". This is what I use when planning a trip.

FYI

I tried this and and I like it but it does not add the address to your contact list in the car. It tells the car to navigate to the address immediately and then it adds it to the recent navigation list which is good enough for me.

That's what I thought was being discussed. How to send a destination to comand.

That is partially correct.

The OP is about transferring the entire contact list from the Iphone to the car's address book. There is an import function in COMAND to do just that but it doesn't work properly. I've given up on that and this is an acceptable substitute. While this requires you to move one address at a time it is better than having to search out the address on the net each and every time. I still get to take advantage of the stored addresses in the Iphone. I have over 200 of them.

I stopped moving contacts to the car. I traded a car in years ago that still had my contacts and navi locations in memory. The buyer the car luckily was a neighbor who told me about what I had left behind.

My contacts list transfers perfectly from my Android to COMAND and can be used for texting and phone. That said some of those contacts cannot be used for navigation because of format issues. Those are the ones I use Mercedes me to update destinations.

Same here. I spent as much time as I'm going to trying to make it import adresses. Maybe a future upgrade will fix it.
