Facelift Model

Hi guys. I am planning on getting an E class however have read online that the new facelift model is due to be launched soon. Any idea by when this will be as I dont want to invest in a car that will be faced out within a few months.

Thanks for your input.

Do you want a first year of a new facelift? Seems to be lots of bugs that first year. We did a European Delivery of a 2019 E450 Cabriolet. One of our cab drivers in Stuttgart always waits until the second or third year. They never buy first year models to use use for cabs.

Well, what we're talking about here, for 2021, isn't just a facelift, is it? In fact, it doesn't seem that MB does facelifts (try telling a 2020 E from a 2017). 2021 will include a new engine (for the E Sedan), a new operating system, new way of interacting with said OS, don't really know what else. Sounds like more of a facelift. That said, I tend to agree with the first year of a new model that has more than facelift changes, but rather changes under the skin.

In Canada only 2019 Models are available to build/price on the website so i'd imagine we are at least 2 years away from 2021 models...

Really? It's my understanding that 2019 production quit over the summer, and only 2020 models (E-Class at least) are being produced. But then maybe Canada autos are sold the way some imports used to be, w-a-a-a-y back when: If it's made in 1960, it's a 1960; if it's made in 1961, it's a 1961. ;-)

What you're describing is waiting on buying a totally new model, not a facelift. The 2021 E-Class will be a facelift not a new model. Yeah it will likely get the I6, an engine that has been in use in Europe for a couple years now and already in use here. Same thing with MBUX. You're confusing a facelift with an all new model.

Even in case of the all new 2017 E Class, I had almost no issues with it. It would appear from reading the new 2020 GLE forum that some are having issues with that, but I do not automatically assume a first year model will be a headache.

So you read something online that you are looking to confirm here(online)? Sounds like the blind leading the blind LOLOL.

I had talked to a service person in the summer. Asked them if a new model was coming anytime soon? He said no, only minor adjustments.

I think a facelift is more then a minor adjustment so I’d have to say your source is fake news or flat wrong.

I've confirmed with a number of sources that the 2021 Sedan will have the inline 6 cylinder engine and MBUX. Certainly not a big redesign, but I don't consider that a facelift. To me a facelift is same mechanicals, with sheet metal or trim changes for the look. I don't think MB does facelifts like this. I don't know of a way to determine the year from the outside of an E Sedan for the 2017-2020 range. If there is, it's certainly not obvious.

Mass confusion in here. A facelift is definitely coming for the 2021 model year. It will most likely get the I6 for the E450, and MBUX. There will also be changes to the lights, grille, bumpers etc. YES Mercedes most definitely does facelifts like that. They've done it for many many years. I don't get what the issue is here. Yes the 2017-2020 will like just alike to everyone.

Wasn’t the headline on the W212 facelift that they spent a billion euros on it? It can be huge and still “just” a facelift. Same chassis code = facelift. The 2021 will still be a W213.

Really? I guess I didn't expect that, what with a completely different 6 cylinder engine. But if it fits.....

Guess the "real" definition of a facelift, as far as MB is concerned, is if it's the same chassis model (W213), any changes are considered a facelift, while a chassic model change (to W214) would not.

Mercedes' get new engines during a facelift all the time. This change from the V6 to the I6 would be no different.

Even without a facelift the chassis has been fitted new (to the W213) engines.

New headlights and bumpers and new infotainment are the changes I have read about. Inline 6 for NA market as the rest of the world has. No more than that

Whilst in China earlier this month, i took the attached photos of a Chinese car mag that had a feature on upcoming Mercedes models, they show an E Class, could be computer generated, but they looked photorealistic, tail lights have CLS and CLA styling, which is no surprise.

So if your a dealer is getting a shipment of these new facelifted models soon. Wouldn’t that make the current models drop soon? If a dealer is aware of new models....they need to clear out inventory.

I’d love to check out the new I6. I read the article about it, what a cool innovative motor they made

The MY20 E53 with the I6 is probably in stock at most dealers. My dealer has them from $125k. The 2021 non-AMG model will be significantly less expensive.

🤔
I hope you get to drive it more than just "around town". Seem to recall you're comments about 35mph and 18mpg. Enjoy it. They look awesome.

No, I don't have one. Did you mistake model year, MY, for my? I have a city car (MB) and a highway car (BMW). Perhaps when I trade again, MB will have a model that can do both. The E300 certainly can't do well on the highway - 60 mph to 80 mph acceleration for passing on a two lane road.

There is no shipment of facelifted models coming soon. The 2020s are already on the ground, the facelift model will be a 2021 model. It hasn't even debuted yet so it won't be shipping anytime soon. At the earliest it would be next spring if they decided to show the car soon, say like next month in LA which I doubt. The I6 is already present in the current CLS 450, GLE 450 and all the "53" AMG models if you want to experience it.
