Carplay2air Question

I recently got the Carplay2Air kit and it won't connect. It temporarily connects to my bluetooth network but it eventually disconnects.

Has anyone gotten it to work on their 2019+ model year?

I looked at their instructions and tried it exactly how they say but it won't work. I've disconnected to each WiFi and only connect to the bluetooth network by the dongle but it still won't work

Is it possible since my iphone is on the latest software it won't work? I may try my parents iPhone on it because they never update their software, use it to update their firmware.

Anyone have suggestions?

I don’t have this product but I’d suggest you try deleting the Bluetooth device from your iPhone and try pairing it again.

edit:
To do this, go settings, Bluetooth, then tap the “i” to the right of the Bluetooth device and then tap “forget this device”

It needs to connect to your phone by both BT and wifi. I'm not sure how it does it, but make sure your wifi is available for connection.

my wifi is on but the networks around me are all locked, I don’t have the password. My Bluetooth connects and my WiFi is on but I just don’t know which network to select or how to connect to it

Connect to the wifi hotspot produced in the car. Use connectivity menu in System and set up hotspot and it generates a security code which is Wi-Fi password.

I would think it connects on its own, using a channel you don't see as a network. Doesn't it come with a manual?

Yeah I used the 5G network this morning but maybe I didn’t wait long enough. But if I connect to the car’s hotspot wouldn’t I need the data plan in order for the WiFi network to start?

The only wifi connection you need for wireless CarPlay is between the dongle and the phone. You don't need ANY public wifi network, whether the car's hotspot or any other. You don't need cell connectivity at all. The carplay2air unit should find your phone and connect via both BlueTooth and wifi so long as both of those are operating on the phone. It won't be using a public wifi network. It will be using a peer-to-peer channel. If the dongle doesn't connect with your phone automatically, something is not right.

+1, the only communication that is required is the bluetooth & Wi-Fi connection between the dongle and the iPhone for wireless carplay. The car's own in-built hotspot or any other WiFi is totally irrelevant.

yeah it won’t connect to any WiFi network. It will temporarily connect to the Bluetooth but not the WiFi. I wonder if I should try an older iOS phone and try to update the firmware on the dongle. My iPhone is on the latest software, so maybe that’s causing the issue?

Again, it won't connect to a network. It will create a private channel that you won't be able to see. But if it's not connecting to the phone's wifi this way, updating its firmware sounds like the first thing to try.

oh okay I see, yeah I’ll try using a phone that isn’t updated to the latest iPhone software and hopefully it connects and allows me to update the firmware on the dongle

thank you

Have you tried to get tech support from the dongle provider? They should tell you what software/firmware levels are required.

I finally got through to their tech support and turns out my phone's iOS was too advanced for the firmware on the dongle. I used an old phone I had laying around to connect it initially and update the firmware. Now with the updated firmware, I have no issues, it's working now

Which one are you using. I had an issue connecting with the one I purchased and ended up returning it

I don't know what you mean by which one, but i'm using the Carplay2Air kit. It wasn't working for me initially because my phone was updated to the latest software. I updated the firmware on the kit by using an older iPhone and after that, it's been great, it works well.

I assume that using this with the Android adapter still only gives you the partial (chopped) display on your 12" screen?

You know, we keep talking about this "chopped" screen for Android Auto and Apple Carplay, but in fact EVERY app the MB runs, except the native Navigation Map, runs in the same size window as AA and AC. Radio, Media, etc. all have a symbol representing the app on the left 1/3 of the screen, and the app on the right 2/3. And the full width Map is useless anyhow, as your travel path is invariably bottom to top, not side to side.
