Live Traffic for Navigation is Back!!

Always use Android but for some reason I turned on my Nav this evening and noticed that the traffic colors are back. Checked the subscription in the settings which had expired last October and it says my subscription is now valid until April 15th 2021. This has been bugging me since it went off but glad to see it back. Hoping its back to stay. Assuming getting a year free for the poop show of almost a yea .

whatttt. I didn't see this in my car today, but I hope it comes back soon! Nice.

But if this is related to Covid, Im not sure how giving us live traffic will help when we aren't supposed to be driving anywhere, and if we do, there is no traffic out there at all!

Nope, mine says still expired. And the map has no traffic colors.

No Live Traffic

You got my hopes up and I immediately checked. No live traffic. Menu says it’s expired. Does anyone have a theory on why it’s working for the op?

Hmm that's really weird. As Happy as I am I was hoping it's back for good. Wonder if it will disappear. only thing I can think of is that a few weeks ago I *****ed at Mercedes on Twitter about this but this is highly unlikely.

Yah mine isn't back either and it says expired in the menu. Good for the OP though.

Unless you gave some kind of information in your Tweet, I dont think they would be able to trace it back to you.

I received this yesterday and it is up and running!

Live Traffic Service, which delivers real-time data about traffic conditions, expires after the three-year trial. Based on your recent inquiry and as a one-time gesture of goodwill, Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC will provide a one-year complimentary extension of your Live Traffic service. This extension will remain active for one year from the current expiration date through April 15, 2021 as long as your mbrace Connect subscription is maintained.

The Live Traffic Service is still subject to the Mercedes-Benz mbrace Terms of Service and MBUSA retains the right to discontinue this service and any other mbrace feature at any time without notice. You can review the Mercedes-Benz mbrace Terms of Service by visiting the website https://www.mbusa.com/en/mbrace for complete program details.

We thank you for your patience in this matter.

Best Regards,

One year complimentary and then how much? Rip off.

Meanwhile google maps via CarPlay and android auto is free and more up to date.
sure, I have to plug in my phone but that’s a minor inconvenience.

Live Traff

I haven’t received an email but, after reading the letter others got from MB, I called the number (Mercedes customer service). I was told that someone will get back to me within 24 hours about reactivating Live Traffic. I’ll post again if/when that happens.

it's not about the money in this case atleast for me its just the point of getting what you think you paid for. Also the problem is there is no "How Much" option because that's not an option. Hence also my poin .

Also one more thing. I called and complained to them around Octobe . Sorta makes me hopeful that they have some type of an agreement in place with TOMTOM where MB can distribute their data to the old customers.

I called MB USA customer service today. They gave me the cold shoulder and told me there’s no way I can get live traffic.

So I’ll never get what I paid for.

You paid for a vehicle that had a 3 year subscription to Live Traffic. You did not pay for a subscription longer than that. Evidently you didn't exercise due diligence when you made the purchase. You should read all of the agreements that were part of your purchase so you won't be surprised when the Mercedes me subscription ends.

Mercedes customer service just called me back to say that Live Traffic was not available. I read her the letter which others received. She responded that she could not comment on non- Mercedes social media. I asked if this was a selective thing and she only said it’s not available to you and that maybe it depends on VIN number. I asked why Mercedes, to the best of my knowledge, has never communicated a word to customers about the Live Traffic issue...never notified us that it could not be renewed after three years or explained the reason. In fact, it doesn’t appear they even communicated with dealers about this. At least, the service advisors at my dealer get more information from me than from Mercedes. To me, total this lack of communication is really salt in the wound and there is no excuse for it. Had I known uo front that Live Traffic would die after the initial three year free period, I would have bought a different brand of car. UA549-from all indications In your posts, it sounds like you have some business connections to Mercedes.

I doubt UA549 is affiliated with any dealership unless buying multiple Mercedes counts as an affiliation. His point was made based on his experience with Mercedes and the world at large I assume. I might suggest from my own experience that if it possible that a few people have gotten an extension it may mean that the technology exists for extending it for a fee or otherwise. If that's the case pestering MB has proven worthwhile. Can we do that for Android Auto?

On the other hand, it is possible that Mercedes is ending its relationship with the Tom Tom service in a few years and once that happens no one can get an extension.

Bingo! From experience learned the hard way I never enter into a contract (purchase agreement) without reading and understanding all of the fine print. When I bought my '18 E300 there were literally hundreds of pages of fine print including software licenses and agreements covering all of the embedded features and apps. IIRC it took about a week to go through all of the documentation provided on an SD card. One interesting restriction that I've not encountered with other vehicles was a prohibition with severe financial penalties against exporting the car. That could be a serious restriction for someone living near the US border with Canada or Mexico.

I found that surprising as well until I saw how expensive Mercedes can be in some markets. I visited a dealership in Malaysia and the base model W213 they had in the showroom was 4x the cost of mine (and I have pretty much every option; they don’t really have options in that market, you choose trim levels).

A lot of that price increase is due to import and sales taxes. I've seen Toyotas priced near US$200,000.

For Malaysia specifically it was the import tax that was the killer. IIRC they told me it is 200%. A family member that had a few C-class over the years mentioned that it even applies to parts, making maintenance crazy expensive as well. On the other side of that, I saw a local brand vehicle for the equivalent of about $6k (new).

Angry Live Traffic For Navigation is Back!!

On April 29, 2020 I received an email from Mercedes-Benz, which read, in part, ....."Based on your recent inquiry and as a one-time gesture of goodwill, Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC will provide a one-year complimentary extension of your Live Traffic service. This extension will remain active for one year from the current expiration date through April 15, 2021 as long as your mbrace Connect subscription is maintained”.
Spoiler

Calls and emails to 1. Customer Service, 2. Customer Advocacy, 3. MBrace have not helped...............One month after receiving a promise that the service would be restored, it is still not working…….”Empty Promises”

This is a surprise to me, I guess I didn't read my contracts and manuals well enough!
Just got a CPO 2017 S213 (E wagon), and I was confused not to see real time traffic, as in my S550 and ML550.
For the 2010 ML550 I had to purchase a $4/month subscription to Sirius, for the 2008 S550 it got traffic "a different way" and no subscription was ever needed.
I am still trying to understand the "data" side of Mercedes Me, with it's 5 year initial subscription from the car's in service date, and it took 6 calls to get my ownership established.
I like being able to email an address with Send2Benz, and the car locator seems accurate and could be useful. Remote start and unlock, maybe.
It's also a surprise to me to see navigation addresses resolved slowly by "searching Online".
I am used to (DVD) based navigation software and map updates at $250 each every few years with search on the local device.

> Do searches now need internet or is that only for extended searches?
> Can someone help me understand what I've bought in this regard?

I found a very low mileage model with the dual flat screen displays and HUD, and part of the benefit of NOT using Apple or Android is to have the navigation replicated on all three screens, or need the phone with a hard-wired connection.
Overall, so far, I am very pleased with the vehicle, coming from 3 ML SUVs the ride, handling are great, space is flatter but good (I can stretch out in the back), assist systems are new or improved, and the performance rivals or exceeds my 5.5L V8. Economy is 50% better with an easy 30MPG on trips were I would have to be gentle to get 20MPG before.
