Rear wagon window shade or tint?

So...loving the e450 all terrain, but the rake of the rear window means that when the dog's in the back, he's often getting cooked by direct sun.

We're headed out on a big road trip next month including through some big stretches of desert, and I'm trying to figure out a good solution for minimizing the direct sun.

Option a: trim a front window sunshade and suction cup it. Kinda janky.
Option b: Get a couple of smaller suction shades - like the kind people use for babies - and suction cup those. Also not so nice.
Option c: tint. probably the right thing, but i worry about weird light refractions from the defroster lines.

What do you guys think? Anyone seen a better solution?

100% recommend tint. Never seen any issues caused by defroster lines.

Totally recommend tinting. Here in Texas, one HAS to tint their windows. I have two dogs myself so tinting is a must. I've not experienced any issues with the tint and the defroster elements. Make sure you go to a quality window tint place.

Tinting allows you to see out the back. Opaque shades do not. In my state, one is legal... the other is not.

Does MB not make the retractable sun shade for the wagon like there is in my sedan? (The roller shade is semi opaque, and you can see through it.)

did I read somewhere that tinting prevents the key fob from working?

No, that's not true. There is no rule that says key fob receivers must be inside the cabin of a car. I don't think that MB antennas are, to be specific. (Pretty sure my W203 and W212 have antennas in the exterior door handles.)

Ok so...I'm thinking I might do 50% for all side windows, 30% for rear glass? I don't want it limo black, even for the rear...

What have you guys done?

It's hard to tell what's on the side windows from the factory. It's definitely not clear, can't tell how close to 50% it is.

My E300 windows are imprinted with 70% all around. That is 70% light transmission, 30% blocked.
Check your state regulations. Often 70% light transmission is the darkest legally available for the windshield (below the T) and front side glass.

Tinted our rear 3 windows and rear doors all same and front doors a little less. I’m thinking 30% rears and 45% front? I’ll have to confirm but it’s great. Also your interior makes a difference. Our macchiato leather is lighter than black obviously

You can buy removable shades from this vendor but delivery to the US is pricey.

I did 30% Ceramic all around, except the windshield of course. Here in Texas it is very hot in the summer so tinting is a must.
