Deactivate key entry

Hope someone can help, (E-Class, W213, 2018) I had my car broken into electronically a couple of days ago, where they opened all the doors (apart from the driver's door) and the boot and stole things inside. I've seen some videos which shows how to deactivate the keyless entry by pressing the lock button twice and a red light is shown - unfortunately it doesn't do anything and can still open the doors by placing hand on handles. I've also tried locking all doors excluding the drivers by holding the lock and unlock buttons for about 6-7seconds, and again doesn't do anything. All doors are still accessible. I'm not sure when the **** unlocked the car electronically if they have now messed up the key locking on my fob..... can anyone help?

You could try using a faraday pouch otherwise, your method is correct which is to press the lock button twice in quick secession.

You have to press the lock button twice very quickly, like within 1/2 second. Press/release, press/release as fast as you can. The LED should respond with a short then longer flash then off.

Place the fob 50 feet away, then approach the car again (without the fob on you). The key reactivates anytime the fob is near the car.

Pressing the fob lock twice turns off the fob, not the car. Another fob can still open the doors. It sounds like someone cloned your fob. Verify as directed by @DFWdude
You should check with your service provider to determine possibility and cost of re-coding.

FWIW I always turn off my fob after locking the car. (no Faraday bag needed)

This might be an interim fix for you: I discovered quite by accident that if you use the Mercedes Me app to lock the car, the FOB won't work to unlock it — you have to again use the Mercedes Me app to open the car. Or at least that's true with my 2018 E400 Coupe.

That's a bit odd. As mentioned, manually turning off the fobs works fine, but you have to turn both off. However, the new fobs in the W213 also have a motion sensor in them and they turn off automatically after 2 minutes if they don't sense any motion. So if they are just sitting in a drawer in your house, they will turn off until they sense motion again. Somebody may indeed have a cloned fob or they got into your car some other way.

I just checked my C300. Locked with app. No problem unlocking by putting my hand inside the door handle.

... Or using the key fob "unlock" near the car.

Same here. If I lock my 2017 E300 with the Mercedes me app I can absolutely open the door by touching the handle when I return to the car.

Just locked my 2019 E450 with the ME app. Waited a minute and went to my car with the FOB in my pocket. Pressed the door handle and it opened.

Was really hoping your suggestion would work, but alas it did not:

Sorry about that — not sure why my car works differently.

Just replaced the battery in my FOB:

I double clicked the "lock": lights flashed, horn went off, mirrors retracted and the door locked.

I then approached my car with the FOB in my pocket: pressed the handle, pulled it and it would not unlock.

Do not know if FOB is inactive, but I can tell you that at least on my car, 2019 E450, the only way to unlock the car is either with the FOB, pressing the unlock on the FOR or the ME app.

Strange????

Update:

Just checked my email and I received the following after using the ME app to unlock my car - which had been locked double clicking the the "lock" on my FOB - confirming the unlocking:

"Dear Mr. XXXXXX XXXXXX,

The Mercedes me connect door locking function unlocked the vehicle on Aug 16, 2021 at 8:22:44 PM. No doors are open. The current status of the doors can be viewed in the Mercedes me app.

Best regards, Mercedes me connect

According to the manual, double pressing the lock button deactivates keyless entry. The only way to unlock the car is with FOB.

That would defeat the purpose of the double press. Again, according to the manual, once you double lock, the only way to unlock is by pressing the unlock button.

That sounds all normal. If you double click the lock button on the fob, then the car locks and the fob deactivates. You can no longer unlock the car by pulling the handle now. The only way to unlock is to press the unlock button on the fob or use the app and yes if you use the app to unlock you'll get an email confirming that the car was unlocked, in case somebody hacked your account. Everything works as it should from your description and is exactly how we've been explaining it here.
