Soaked SAM

Automagical "windows down" points at the Front SAM Module being soaked in its tub.

This happens when water runs down the A-pillar guided by thick harness bundle into SAM's enclosure. SAM is in charge of managing the car power distribution.

Crazy SAM guarantees electrical grumblings.

Haven't tried this yet on my new car but in the past I've used weed trimmer string. Feed it down through the drain line from the top of the sunroof. Usually you'll find 4 drains, one in each corner.

before you go ahead and snake through the drain ... first try to reproduce the problem with a quart of water. Is water not coming down at all vs. reasonably well??

Is it the sunroof drains that are plugged or the something else leaking buckets inside (roof seem or windshield seal).

This problem has been discussed on this forum, the W212, and W211 forums. One might think that after 20+ years, Mercedes would have devised a solution to eliminate the problem.

.
I've never had a clogged drain problem. Of course I never park the car with the sunroof open.

I guess rain and dust (from construction) might contribute to clogged drains?

there’s a few spots in mine like the plastic box over the battery

Was it the sunroof? As the problem you are experiencing reminds me of another thread (GLC though) :

theres a spot that is a bit of an elaborate drainage system from the wipersabove, which if mot aligned will flood my floor underneath. wasnt discovered until i couldn’t keep a big new optima battery charged- shorted wouldn’t start.
