Personally, I think Mercedes is jumping the gun in switching to all electric by 2030. The technology is not for everyone and the infrastructure is far from being in place. Hopefully Mercedes will delay killing off gas powered vehicles so soon.

Not going to happen: Every major manufacturer has made a commitment to go from ICE to BEV in order to reduce CO2 emissions that are a major cause of climate change..

2030 is 7 years from now. In technology that is light years away. Well before then, the infrastructure for BEV will be in place.

Sure all auto manufacturers can speed up their BEV migration to whatever timeline, but speaking solely for myself, I do NOT plan to own an electric vehicle in my driving lifetime... They will have to pry the keys of my current ICEs from my cold dead fingers...

I'm happy that my W213 is in great shape that will last me for the next 20 years or so. (We'll reach EOL together.)
I can't see purchasing an EV until battery technology improves to where charging a battery takes no more time than filling a tank - about 5 minutes.

I sincerely hope gas prices don't sky rocket now, in the near future and in the future and there will be enough fuel/petrol/gasoline doesn't matter where you are from for stubborn folks like us.

Most charging will not be at stations, but at home, apartments and overnight on L2 chargers.

The fact is that over 90% of driving is under 50 miles and charging on the go is not needed.

Having said that, I am in that 10% where more than 50% of my driving is on trips over 200 miles. With trips over 200 miles, a robust charging infrastructure is necessary and why I am not presently driving a BEV.

In three years when the extended warranty on my 2019 E450 runs out, I am hopeful that the charging infrastructure will be more robust, and charging times will have decreased to under 15 minutes. If it is, the replacement for my E450 will be a BEV.

Have you also considered PHEV as well? Maybe not right, since you said the majority of your trips are 200 miles, I was thinking that if you drive short trips occasionally that alone making PHEV worthwhile.

At the present time I think PHEV make the most sense and is a wonderful "bridge or gap filler" between ICE and BEV.

Our second car is a 2018 Ford Edge Sport, that only has 23,000 miles on it. It is my wife's car. The longest distance my wife drives is 120 miles round trip to the Tanger Outlets! Her car will be the first to be replaced by a BEV! We have a large two car garage and installing a L2 charger will be very easy. We are waiting for larger BEV SUV: most today are the size of subcompact SUV, smaller than even the Toyota RAV4 or Honda CRV. The Ford Edge is a true mid size, 5 passenger which works very well for us. We do not need anything larger like a Honda Pilot and we have outgrown the RAV4 and CRV.

Just my $.02!

Thanks for your reply, the only thing holding me back with PHEV is weight, I mean when the engine is off and you use pure electric you have the weight of the engine and the fuel in the fuel tank that the electric motor has to push, when the engine is on, you have the weight of the battery that the engine has to push. I guess we can't win

I mean we already know how the side profile looks from the spy shots, all we are waiting for are the headlights and taillights.
