Ordering 2022 E450A4 Cabrio this week. Anything special I should know?

Have specked out fairly well loaded car with my dealer. Not yet included Automatic Body Control feature. Is this something I should add? Nappa leather? Anything else? ANY PROBLEMS? Will keep this car for 8-10 yrs as I have 2 others---but will put approx 10,000 mi/yr on it.
Will finalize this week.. Appreciate any & all comments.

Based on all the posts in many forums, at the end of 4 years or 50,000 miles whichever comes first, probably an extended warranty!

Happy Holidays and good luck!

Congrats on the order, the E-Cab is a fantastic car, I've rented a few of them when on vacation. I'd avoid Air Suspension if keeping long-term, MB has never had a good history with air-suspension and the ride is plenty comfortable without it, especially if coming from the ML in your bio. Napa Leather is also nice but will require more care than regular leather or MB-Tex as it is less durable. I would simply just get a regular light colored leather interior as convertibles with dark leather can be painful in the hot sun.

Count me in as the sucker with two air suspension E class machines in the driveway. It is definitely a post-warranty financial risk, but it really makes for a great driving and riding car. I agree with js, you don't need the air suspension, but if you spec the car with the 19 inch wheels, the air suspension takes nearly all of the harshness out of ride introduced by the low profile tires.

Keep in mind Air is standard on the S series. Air has been on these cars for at least 50 years. You just have to know what you are getting into and be comfortable with it.

Listening to others is no help whatsoever ever if you have never ridden in a car with it.

I would absolutely add the Air Body Control air suspension. It will transform the way the car rides. We have it on my wife’s E450 Wagon and the car drives like an S Class! I would also go for that beautiful, Designo interior, but since they only offer it in the one color combination, I could see where some folks might not care for it. Good luck!

Right, why one color? makes no sense. White mats, no thanks. Also the white steering wheel. If they offered it in other colors it would be hot item, and I would get it. Such a pitty.

Well, we have the Designo interior offered in the 2019 Wagon. Believe it or not, the steering wheel really doesn’t pick up dirt that quickly and is very easy to keep clean. As for the carpets & mats, a simple change to dark colored mats cures the issue. The interior is just SO lush and high end, with all that gorgeous stitching and leather everything, just a notch below Bentley quality. We love it!

Best advice - pay as little as possible. Next - the macchiato interior is impossible to keep clean, and I don't mean just the mats. Furthermore - MB has never gotten the air suspension to work reliably, and that goes back to the 1980s. Last, I have never been able to decide on what the replacement mats should be, but there is an expresso version from MB that I think would work well, and not be too risky.

So, I guess that means that EVERY W222 S Class without MBC has an air suspension that doesn’t “work reliably,” not to mention all the other late model MB’s riding on air, right? The modern MB air suspensions are light years better than what was offered several decades ago. As for the light interior being “impossible” to keep clean, I’ll refer to the old Packard slogan: “Ask the man who owns one!” Our Designo interior in our E450 Wagon has been quite simple to keep clean, as has the Exclusive Nappa interior in our SL. Oh well, I guess everyone has an opinion and the best we can say is “Your mileage may vary.”

Au contraire, the meaning is that the MB air suspension is problematic (old meaning). A cursory review of the consumer posts regarding the air suspension system supports this. I do own a vehicle with the "macchiato" interior and I find it impossible to keep clean. Of course our vehicles get a lot of use and we are in an environment that is inherently dirt laden. If I used the vehicles less and they were in a more pristine environment my perception might be different. I note the vehicle in your post has charcoal mats, why is that if the interior is so easy to keep clean?

The mats are black, because MB has idiots selecting carpet colors. In the wagon, they should have selected the “Saddle Brown” color for the carpets & mats. In the SL, they should have selected the “Espresso Brown” color for the carpets & mats. Just because they are idiots about what is underfoot, doesn’t mean I have to be.

Some folks have various problems with various systems on most any complicated piece of machinery. Are there more problems with an air suspension than with springs? Probably, but luxury can be complicated and expensive. In the case of current MB air suspensions, my opinion is that the absolutely sensational ride comfort they provide, way more than offsets any potential issues and repair expenses. I have no data to back this up, but I can’t imagine that the vast majority of late model MB owners with an air suspension are quite pleased with it and have never had an issue with it.

All S series models have Air. These comments are coming from E users who don't like this maintenance cost which are quite a bit more than non-air (or can be).

“All” is not quite correct. All S Class models, from 2014 to present, come with AirMatic as standard equipment. As an option, they offered MBC or Magic Body Control through 2020, which is a giant leap forward over the air suspension, in my opinion. For 2021, all S Class had AirMatic. Starting in 2022, EABC is optional, to the tune of over $6,000.00! Can’t wait to test drive one of those.
