2022 E350 Tint Question
I just got my 2022 E350 and I was looking to get it tinted. I've seen post online where when tinting the back windshield water gets into some of the computers which bricks your car. Is that an issue still with my car?

You mean the control module? It only applies to the W206 from what I gathered. https://mbworld.org/forums/c-class-w...ar-window.html
Better be safe than sorry though, make sure your tint shop knows the risks and what they will do to eliminate such risk.

It could just be for the C300's since I saw it in this post. Just wanted to confirm before getting it done.
I don't understand why MB put that module there when it is susceptible of rainwater ingress and other liquids but they must have their reason?

Anyone else have information on tints for the 2022 e class? I've read posts that previous w213 e class models have had issues similar to the issues the w206 c300 has, but haven't found anything about the 2022 w213.

Personal experience when it comes to E-Classes (asked everyone mentioned as I got curious and here are their responses) : I have a family member with a 2019 C238 and another with a 2016 W212, I have two friends that has a S213 2019 E 63s and S213 2019 E 450 respectively, W213 E 53 never reported any issues with tinting, they also used various brands because of their different preferences (which therefore include different shops too with different types of experiences working on these cars), some have Autobahn, Xpel, Huper, F1 Pinnacle, etc. am not sure if there are variations in the location of these modules installed in the vehicle depending on different markets but from what I witnessed, not an issue here for E-Classes sold in Canada, I believe that is true for the entire North America?
Could you link us the post if you can find it, I am curious what went wrong with the tint job so we can all learn from it.

The last post of that thread in 2021 mentioned it is super rare at least for the W213 as they stated "have been tinting these for many years and never had any issues, till this morning" for a 2020. If this flaw still exists the facelift wouldn't have changed anything.
That being said though, my family members and friends as mentioned had no issues with tinting all their vehicles so a reputable tinting shop shouldn't give you any issues.
The W206 for some reason actually got instructed to not tint for the time being by the dealership according to the other threads in the W206 sub forum so there must be some changes (better or worse) and the module is more susceptible.
Thanks for the link once again.

I received from my dealer a copy of a service bulletin applicable to all sedans 2020 and newer when I picked up my 2022 e class. The bulletin essentially said we will deny any warranty claims for water damage from tinting.

Never heard of that or received anything like that, do you mind sharing with us more details of the bulletin or can you attach a scanned copy?

It has been reported here before. YouTube video in last post.

In that case, definitely exercise with caution and like I mentioned earlier many times, to find a reputable tint shop (as all the vehicles I mentioned a few posts back didn't have the issue with different types of tints and different shops, I asked the vehicle owners as mentioned and that is what they reported back to me) and make sure anyone who tints their vehicles to ask the shop what precautions they take if any needed to prevent a chance of damaging the module.
I will go ahead and link the video from the thread you shared where the module is, so precautions can be taken by the owner before tinting knowing where it is: youtube.com/watch?v=xwa0iiEbEps

I had my 2021 E350 tinted on all windows last week. I've had no issues and am extremely happy with the tint. I went to Advanced Window Tinting in Jacksonville, FL.
I just ran across this thread and thought I'd chime in. 2021 vs 2022, so not and exact 1:1 example.

I received the advise
Hi my friend. I received the advise from my dealer when I received my 2022 E350 back in May, in Florida. Please be advised that it is not about NOT TINTING your car. It is just about being professional when doing it. The shop that did mine did it with a minimum of water running, taking special care of the back windshield. The guys in the shop told me they knew about this advice. Dealer also told me that any damage for water damage wouldn't be covered by the warranty. So yes, you can do it, but either at the dealer, with dealer authorized shop or with a shop that take care of doing it well.

Unless things have changed, dealers sub-contract with professional tint shops to come in and tint their newly received cars. (So, dealers don't tint themselves. Heck, some MB dealers don't even have body shops.) Buy your car -- catch it before the dealer can have it tinted -- then ask your dealer who they hire to tint and go there.
I've had two MBs. Both are tinted on the rear window without any issues at all.
