12v battery warranty

Hello folks,

My 4 year warranty is expiring in a month and I keep getting the “critical battery charge” message for the 12v starter battery. Please do you know if this battery is covered by the 4 year warranty?

Appreciate all the help

Have you tried putting either a regular charge or a trickle charge on the battery? This usually solves the problem..

To the best of my knowledge batteries are pro rated and the replacement cost is not covered under either the 4 year/50,000 miles warranty

Thank you for the answer. I have been charging the battery by just driving the car for about 45min. That solves the problem for a week or two but then the problem comes back. I wonder if the battery is too old to hold the charge and needs to be replaced at this point.

Sadly that’s normal after two weeks of not using. Have you put the car in Standby/Hibernate mode using the command system?

I would call the dealer and explain your situation. Sounds like you have a weak battery.

Thanks everyone for the info. I didn’t have a chance to take the car to the dealer and now the warranty is expired. I assume the dealer would have recognized a prorated warranty only anyways… who knows. So I still have the message coming up every now and then. What is the worst that could happen? The car just won’t start at all, right? Or is the worst that only certain features are limited? Appreciate the help.

At this late stage, any prorated adjustment would only be just a couple of dollars anyways. This message could be due to limited amount of driving you do; in my case I would get the same message almost every ten days if I didn't hook up a battery charger/maintainer to it since mine is not driven every day. I would suggest carrying a battery starter/jumper in the trunk just in case, so you don't get stranded at a bad time/place.

Thank you so much. Your suggestion on the battery starter is great. Do you know of any particular model that works well with Mercedes batteries? Or should all of them be the same thing? Maybe something like this should work? Starter on amazon

I just picked one from Amazon with lots of good reviews/comments (around $100), I had done some literature review on different models before picking one and I think any of them with high ratings should work fine with any V4 or V6 MB. They usually keep their charges for 6 months and on the average can jump start a dead battery 4 times on a full charge before completely draining.

Thank you again! Ordered one already and it is arriving overnight. So just to confirm, if at some point the car won’t start, just connect the jumper to the main battery, jump start the car (seems pretty easy according to some YouTube videos) and replace the starter battery asap ?

Sure.
In a nutshell, yes. However, make sure to read the instructions, some starters won't function if they don't detect "any" voltage back from the dead battery (i.e. fully dead), and need to follow an override procedure to get them work, it may seem complicated, but it is not, depending on the specific model, could be as easy as pushing a button on the side or bottom of the device.

I see. I ordered this “Noco boost” one that keeps coming up on almost every YouTube video. It was $99 plus tax. Seems very easy to use. Wish me luck in case the car won’t start!
