Mercedes me connect intermittent morning remote start with app

My Mercedes me Connect is 50/50 when it comes to remote start first time in the morning. If i go outside and start it up and shut it off, it will wake up the car and now I could remote start, sometime I do not have to do that. Is anyone else having the same issue, the old key fob starter was so much more reliable.

Don’t know where you are but, probably the cell phone signal.

Cell phone signal is often the most likely cause. I only used remote start a couple of times to play with it, but I didn't renew it. I occasionally use remote lock/unlock and it has never failed. Remote start also didn't fail when I played with it.

However as said, good cell reception is crucial. For example, last Sunday we had a major power outage due to a substation fire and it affected cell service in my area. I drove to an area that wasn't affected by the power outage to grab dinner as all restaurants nearby had closed, and when I came back home I noticed that I didn't get the usual alert on my phone that the car is unlocked. I never lock it in my garage. So I opened the app and noticed that the status hadn't updated. It showed that my ignition was still on and everything was weird because of it. Basically the car was unable to update the status due to the cell service being on the fritz. It all cleared up the next day and went back to normal. MY2019 should still be on AT&T while some newer models are now using T-Mobile and existing models were supposed to be switched to T-Mobile as well, but they had issues with that. Not sure if they scrapped that plan altogether or if it's just delayed. There was a recent OTA update for the communication module, but nothing specific in the details. T-Mobile reception is very poor around here, so I'm crossing my fingers that they won't switch me to T-Mobile. So far I still seem to be on AT&T, same as my phone.

I downloaded the communication module update last month which is supposed to improve the Mercedes me Connect module. The update might have made the app connection less reliable.

Except for maps, I haven’t had an OTA update since I got the car.

So far that hasn't been my experience. It's at least as reliable as before.

Probably wanna look into that. This is the second OTA update for the communication module. First one was a recall and your model year is on it.

Does anyone know if Mercedes me Connect is 4G based or satellite based?

Thanks SuperSwiss. The area I live in does not have 4G cell phone reception, that might explain why the remote starter is spotty.

That recall was issued before my car was even built. Also, it goes to 2020, for the A220 and AMG G63. I have a 2021 C300 cabriolet.

I see it now. For the C300 Cabrio it's only up to 2020. I was looking at the sedan. I would think the second update still applies to your model, though as it just came out. I know they staggered the rollout. Some people got the update much earlier than I did. As said, haven't really noticed any changes, but I'm assuming it fixed some issues with the communication module.

My Mecedes me often is not connected to the car. it has nothing to do with cellphone reception

But i found a little trick which i also expained here; Mercedes Me Connect - If You Can't Connect To Your New 2019 Car - Page 14 - MBWorld.org Forums

Basically you program a ""pre-entry climate control" and sent it to the car (you might have to try severel times) .
this wakes the car up and re-establishes a connection with mercedes me .
now all functions are back

I was able to remote start my E400 yesterday using the MercedesMe App on my Apple Watch. I hit the app while I was in a restaurant and after I trudged through some snow to get to my car it was running and nice and warm!

If you own an Apple Watch, I recommend loading MercedesMe on to it!

There is no pre-entry climate control in the US version of my Mercedes me connect

Just to clarify, OP has a 2019, which no longer uses the mBrace platform that your 2018 uses. It's a new platform called Mercedes me connect, complete with a new phone app. The new app no longer offers a Watch app. Mercedes me connect is overall more reliable than the old mBrace platform, and mBrace is gradually being discontinued. No live traffic anymore for example after the initial 3 years have expired.
