Anyone know any good independent Mercedes mechanics here in Massachusetts? Thank you in advance.

I didn't get a chance to see what I paid for the Service A (on my 2018 E300 4Matic Sport). However, I am taking it in next week for the Service B. I called three local MB dealers.

I was quoted the following for Service B:
Service B
Oil and filter change
Top all fluids
Brake fluid flush
Cabin air filter
Battery test

The prices were:
Dealer 1) $723 if you wait, or $845 if I schedule an appointment and take a loaner.
Dealer 2) $725
Dealer 3) $800

None were running any specials, had coupons, etc.

I also asked for prices for:
Replace the spark plugs -- and the prices were $325, $350, and $400
Fluid transmission flush/replace -- and the prices were $900, "about $1000" and $1073.

I haven't had a chance to call the two indy shops nearby. Thanks.

Double check to see if the engine filter is also changed at the "B" service.

Spark plugs are at 50,000 miles.

Will do on the engine filter! Thanks!

As far as the spark plugs -- the service advisor said bring it in at 60,000 miles. I am already at 55k I think. I've had the car in the garage for quite a bit. At first I thought that was just another reason to get me back in there and sell me something else, LOL. However, I was going to ask them if I did it this time with the Service B, would they give me a discount on either/both. Thanks again!

Glad to see another confirmation of what the "B" Service covers and the rough range of costs MB dealers charge. As I stated in post #9 above, I paid $250 for the exact service at my local Indy shop, while MB of Silver Springs quoted me $800 + tax (w/appointment and no loaner - i.e., a wait-service). And there is no engine air filter replacement included in B.... for any MB vehicle, and that is according to Mercedes Benz USA.

I do not believe that is accurate: My list shows the engine air filter being replaced every 20,000 miles, which would be the "B" service.

Having said that, unlike the cabin air filter which is a pain in the *ss to change, the engine filter is very easy and you can do it yourself.

Just found this:

How Much Does Mercedes-Benz Service B Cost?

Mercedes-Benz Service B* cost is determined by a few different factors. At Fletcher Jones Motorcars, the cost of Service B starts at around $528, but this will vary based on the model you own and the parts needed. For an exact quote, we always recommend contacting our service center.

see: https://www.fjmercedes.com/service/m...enz-service-b/

I know that the engine filter, like all filters must be replaced. I do not see the replacement on either the "A" or "B" service. From a print out I have from Mercedes, the engine filter is scheduled to be replaced every 2 years or 20,000 miles, the "B" service.

Engine Air Filter

I'm pretty sure the Engine air filter is replace at 50K miles. Found this handy chart (attached) on a dealer web site, but I read the same in many places:

Since I shared the official MB USA checklist for "A" and "B" service, to which you claimed was not accurate, here is your chance to prove yourself correct/accurate:

1- Can you please provide a checklist for "B" service mandated by Mercedes Benz?
2- Can you please provide a link to where MB specified that engine air filter needs replacement at every 20K miles, as you claim here?

The last time I had service B done, it included two filters, but not the engine filter, apparently the air filter needs to be replaced every 20k miles.

That's very strange, those two part numbers are for cabin air filters, didn't think you had two of them.

Also I like how they charged you an extra $4.79 to dispose of the oil filter. I guess that's a state thing, we're allowed to just throw it in the trash in my state.

They also really marked up the price of that seal ring, list MB price is $3.70 and they got you for $6.11. You can get a 15 pack of them on Amazon for about $8.

On my 2019 E450 there are two filters:
  • Part #166 830 02 18. This is called the "cabin air filter". In my car it is located in the engine compartment, passenger side, directly over the battery. Price $24.50. This is very, very easy to get at and replace.
see: https://mbparts.mbusa.com/oem-parts/...IFJlc3VsdHM%3D
  • Part # 205-835-01-47. This is called "Fine Particle Filter". This is located inside the car, in the glove compartment. This is a ***** to replace. Price is $65.
see: https://mbparts.mbusa.com/oem-parts/...IFJlc3VsdHM%3D

When I had my "B" service done, both filters were replaced.

Also in the "B" service was a brake fluid change.

Oh yeah I guess those are much cheaper on the aftermarket. And if you get them from FCPEuro, you don't have to buy them again, just pay for shipping to get a new one. They claim Corteco is OE for the cabin air filter.

Just to be clear:

The link was to Helms Brothers Mercedes Benz dealership. It is not after market. These are OEM genuine Mercedes parts.

Yes, just commenting on the price. Another basic they don't call them stealerships for nothing type post.

Their list prices for OEM parts are higher than MB list prices. About the only thing decent on there is the cost of the oil, it's usually at least $6/quart for any kind of Mobil 1 0w40/5w40.

Just had my 2019 W213 have a Service A done. Purchased 10k miles ago CPO, time for oil change. I was totally ready to go in there and drop a couple hundred dollars, but only paid $125ish.

MB of Tampa has been my go to since my family had the ability to get a Benz.

There are numerous lists and invoices for a B services. It includes an Oil Filter and a Cabin air filter. I have read them all and haven't seen one which lists an engine air filter. Here are links which show the engine filter needs to be changed at 50K miles.

Maybe I am confused, but more likely ignorant, LOL -- question -- you don't get a B service every 20,000 miles, do you? Thanks.

Mercedes calls for service every 10,000 miles or one year whichever comes first.

At 10,000 miles/one year there is the "A" service.

At 20,000 miles/two years there is the "B" service.

At 30,000 miles/three years there is the "A" service.

At 40,000 miles/four years there is the "B" service.

That is the regularly scheduled service.

At 50,000 miles there is additional work including spark plug change.

I do a service every 10,000 miles. Others every year regardless of mileage: i.e., if they only drive 5,000 miles, but it is a year, they do the service.

Hope this helps.

Yeah sadly the last 2 years I have still been doing my services with only 6-7k each year. But in the long run it's probably worth it.

So, at 60,000 miles do you go back to the B service, and at 70,000 it's the A service? And so on? What service are you doing every 10,000 miles? The A service? Thanks again for the help!

If you’re paying over $100 more, it’s called a rental car. My dealer only does car washes after servicing, but they do loaners. Guess I can’t complain.

Just took my car in today -- as scheduled -- and it was $725 plus tax. I was going to bring it back next week for the spark plugs, but they changed the price drastically on me! Anyway, my car hadn't been started in a month, so when I took it out Saturday, I started it, and it started misfiring. The check engine light came on, so I pulled over and shut it down. Waited, checked the oil, started it up and it was fine. A friend checked it out. So I asked the dealer to check the log. No answer. He said it was probably because it hadn't been started in a month, and it reset itself when I shut it off.

Anyway, today he tells me to do the spark plugs -- it's $850! -- after they told me on the phone it was $350. He also told me the coil may need to be replaced -- although he won't know until they get in there -- however, it might, possibly, could be covered by my (extended) warranty. Then he tells me to do the transmission fluid/flush service it's $1400 -- and not the $1000 they told me on the phone. I hate when this happens. I get that this is business -- but this is bad business. Bait and switch, inaccurate pricing, whatever it is -- it's simply bad business.

They also replaced my key fob with a new one. Every time I brought it in it was not working, I kept having to replace the battery after a month, and finally after the 3rd time of them replacing the battery -- they said it's a malfunction, damage, etc. -- and so they replaced it. Maybe they were just setting me up for next time, LOL. Thanks.
