Been in a car accident...

Hello, I hope this thread finds everyone well and healthy. I was involved in a car accident where I was driving my 2017 E300. Luckily, Mercedes engineering kept me safe and damage to my body was minimal, including the damage to the car exterior as well. From what I gathered at the junk yard where I saw the car, it only needs a bumper, grille, plastic bumper parts, a hood, steering wheel airbag, knee airbag, and a driver seatbelt/airbag (more than likely a crash bar and some bits and pieces inside of the bumper that I couldn't see).

I plan on buying the car back from my insurance as they deemed it totaled. I will be performing the rebuild my self as the car is basically brand new with new suspension, internal & external engine components, tires, service done to the transmission not too long ago, etc. My question is (if anyone has any knowledge on this matter), what needs to be done to get the car started again other than replacing the airbags and crash sensors? Do I need a new crash module/computer or other parts to reset the car? If so, If i order it from Mercedes, do they have to re-program it or would it just be plug and play? Any advice and tips will be greatly appreciated.

Here are some pictures of the crash/damaged parts:

Glad you are good....think HARD before you buy that car back. Salvage title will alter insurance (in many states). Then, the cost of airbags, programming and on and on and on.

thank you. I appreciate the kind words. The car will be sent to Europe for me to use. It was supposed to be sent at the end of February anyways, so it won’t be registered or insured in the us anymore.

Sorry to hear... Hope you are ok.
Same as you, I bought my car back from insurance twice to restore it (and mostly sentiment about the car that I own for so long)
All the best and keep us posted

Sorry to hear about the accident. Good to hear you are fine. Whether or not the car has a salvage title will depend on where you have the repairs done. A car isn't a salvage title if the only reason is that the insurance company decided that it would cost "them" too much to repair it.

Can't help with the requirements to get up and running.

Thank you! Just a cut lip with some swelling, bruising, and 13 stitches. Nothing a little time won't heal.

The sentiment part is one of the reasons why I am wanting to buy it back. I've worked so much on this car and know it inside and out like the back of my hand. It's the only car i've ever owned where I can take the engine out and repair it without a manual.

Thank you! As for the title, it won't really matter for my situation as the car is being sent to Europe for me to drive there. I was planning on sending it early February, and since Europe doesn't really care about salvaged titles it's fine if it does get one from the insurance. I will be doing the repairs my self since they're not giving me enough money to take it to a shop to fix. I'll just be ordering used/new parts and piecing it back together
