2024 Mercedes e 450

Hi all,
I ordered a 2024 E 450 in February.
It finally arrived today but with the super screen which I did not order.
Should I accept this car or wait and order a 2025?
my current 2014 E works well so not in a hurry.
Any advice on people having a problem with the screen or the 2024 E in general?
Thank you!

Sounds like a question only you can answer. If everything else you wanted is on the car, then why not? Unless you're particular about having the trim instead of an extra screen, why would you reject it?

Take the super screen. You won't be sorry based on my experience. It will also add resale value in the future.

Yes it will add value, but it will cost you as only a fraction of the cost will you see in resale.

Like almost all options, their value depreciates rapidly with time: what determines resale value is mileage and conditions, options only count for a small amount.

2025 are now being delivered, so your 2024 is already a year old. Unless the dealer is willing to substantially depreciate this car, I would pass and order a 2025.

I'd decline it and order a 2025 to get exactly what you want. Seems like you hold onto your vehicles for several years. Therefore, you'll constantly be reminded that you didn't want the super screen, and even more if it malfunctions. The E-450 is an expensive luxury car, so get what you want and don't settle for less. That's why you ordered a custom car, right?

You should also consider that the 2025 E450 base price increased 4% compared to the 2024 with the addition of a center airbag.

The difference in MSRP between the 2024 and 2025 is about $2000. The hyperscreen is $1500. The 2025 has a center air bag. So for all intents and purpose the 2024, with the hyperscreen and 2025, with the center air bag, have the same MSRP.

With the same MSRP the 2024 will always be worth less than the 2025.

As I posted, the only way I would take a 2024, when the 2025's are available, would be with a substantial discount.

Just my $.02:

Personally I do not like the hyperscreen: I think it a distraction, useless, and another electronic piece of equipment that can break. Plus I prefer the look of the car without the hyperscreen.

You appear to keep your cars a long time so depreciation is not a factor. Both cars either 24 or 25 model after 10 years will have equal value based on mileage and condition. The dealer will probably not charge you for the unwanted option plus you will save 2,000.00,price increase. You may also get a discount on top of the free option.
Take the 24 E450. It will save you money for exactly the same e car. Secondly your 10 year old car could break down during the 4 month wait for the 25 model.

I wouldn't take the Superscreen.
1. There is no need for it unless you drive cross-country with a passenger that has the digital intend...
2. Another piece that can malfunction and set you up in the shop.
3. I like the look without it.
4. No real added resale value.
5....

I'd disagree, only will add resale if someone wants it. Personally, I think its a gimmick and would not want the super screen.

Well equipped late model cars are the better sellers. Dealers pay for what sells quickly. I don’t think the super screen adds much value but bit makes a used car more desirable.

Like it or not, a used 2024 in 2028 may sell faster with the super screen unless it gets a bad reputation of causing headaches for owners. Time will tell. I happen to lime it and have it in my 2024 lease and in my 2025 order that is on the cargo ship on its way to the US.

I have a 2025 450 on order as well. I personally don’t like the super screen and did not order it. I’m 72 years old and I don’t think my wife will be too interested in playing Angry Birds on the way to WalMart and back. I tend to keep vehicles a long time and the last thing on my mind when ordering a car is resale value. I’m also a finger smudge freak and feel it would drive me nuts. Just my take on it.

Here is a fact: In 2028, the My 2024, 4 years old with the superscreen will be worth less than a 2025, 3 years old, without the superscreen.

As per my post #8, both cars have similar MSRP.

Unless the dealer is willing to discount the 2024, which with the 2025 arrivals is now 1 year old, I would get the 2025: Personally I put greater value on the center air bag than the superscreen: the air bag is a safety feature: the superscreen a gimmick.

Certainly not a fact unless you are a time traveler. There is little chance it's less. Equal, maybe, but less. No way that is a fact.

Four years from now, 2028, a four year old Mercedes, MY 2024 with the same MSRP as a Mercedes MY 2025, three year's old will always be worth less. The only exception was during Covid.

Sorry, I misread your post. I thought you were comparing a 2024 with and without the superscreen. Yes, agree that a 2024 will be worth less than a 2025 in 4 years.

But the question was from a person who keeps his cars 10 years. Go to the first post.

I am aware of that: but circumstances and situations change and maybe the car will only be kept for 5 years. If that is the case, then it would make economic sense to wait for MY 2025 unless there is a substantial discount on MY 2024.

Nobody can tell the OP what to do as it's really a personal choice. If it were me, and the 2024 had everything I want then I would take the 2024 since like the super screen option. Ordering a 2025 will take at least 3 months so if you can wait and it's important to get a car without the super screen, then wait.

Regardless of what the resale value of a car with or without the super screen, that feature in the W214 looks fantastic. The front view of the car with SS gives it an even more luxurious feel and makes the car really elegant vs just plain wood or metal on that side. MB really have something going with the SS option that gives these cars the umph… I love it when I saw it live and night driving brings the car to another level. For the $2500 or whatever the cost is, IMO it is worth it in spades…

If I were buying the E350, I would not bother with the SS. I would order the functional options and nothing else. That would be the best value. That said, I ordered a loaded E450 and not adding the SS would leave the car incomplete. The SS added about 1.5% to the car I have coming. Not really a big deal.
