E53 - Smallest wheel that fits 390mm brakes

The 2025 E53 I have on order has the AMG DYNAMICS PLUS Package (DE6) with the larger 390mm brakes (3U0). I won't have possession until late March, 2025.

For the first many months I will enjoy the 21" wheels and low profile summer tires. Then I plan to downsize the wheels (upsize the sidewalls) to improve ride comfort and use all season tires.

Q. What is the smallest wheel that can accommodate these brakes on this E53?

Some notes:
  • I have also asked my MB dealer, but they seem to GOOGLE these sorts of questions, while sometimes asking MB internally in parallel. Hence my own question here.
  • The MBUSA website for the E53 says: "AMG® wheels are available in a variety of designs and colors. Standard fitment is a staggered-width 20-inch design, while lightweight forged 21-inch wheels are available in silver or black."
  • I have also read auto journalists write "19 inch wheels are standard", but it is not clear where they got that info from, and whether or not 19 inch wheels work with the larger brakes in this AMG DYNAMICS PLUS package.
  • In other threads here outside E-Class (W214) there are somewhat similar discussions with great info from users like @maxusa about upgrading to 390mm discs, including whether they'd fit inside 18 or 19 inch wheels, but I wanted to keep this question in the proper forum for this car model - maybe to help others in future.
  • Also seen mention that 4MATIC cars (like this one) of course have unique front wheel considerations. Maybe this impacts the wheel size requirements here as well?

Thanks for any wheel size info. Appreciated.

Understanding wheel size (diameter, width), offset, suspension, etc. is a rather deep rabbit hole on a new model since there aren't that many out in the wild.

Q. Anyone know what the MB part numbers are for the front and rear wheels on the 2025 E53, for either the 21" or 20" OEM wheels? Maybe the offsets for front and rear?

It's a bit too soon to have 2025my info, but you may find what you are seeking in a 2024 wheel at Wheel-Size.com :: Global Wheel Fitment Database For Vehicles

you can do these, but AMG only officially approves those for winter tires. Swapping OEM Pilot Sport 5 for all seasons would significantly degrade performance
  • Rim size:
    • Front axle: 9 J x 19 offset 16
    • Rear axle: 9,5 J x 19 offset 36.1
  • Recommended tyre size:
    • Front axle: 245/45 R19 102V XL M+S
    • Rear axle: 275/40 R19 105V XL M+S

Thanks to @ua549 and @Dima for the info. Very helpful.

From the link I found my model: https://www.wheel-size.com/size/merc...r214-2024-2026

Here is an image of the page that seems to show the 19" OE options with 9.5 J and 10.5 J wheel widths with ~ 22 and 40 mm offsets.

If I went with the first set of OE 19" wheels and tire sizes Front: 255/45R19 andRear: 285/40R19 my overall tire height: 28" front and back which is well within range of the 21" set that this vehicle comes with.

The sidewalls would increase from 3.65" / 3.5" (front/rear) to 4.5" (both) which seems an impressive upgrade in the comfort category given I have no intention of launching, racing or drifting in this daily driver. I would put the OE 21" wheels/tires back on when I wanted those thrills.

Do these seem like good tires for this purpose: Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4
For the wheels themselves, I wonder if the 2024/25 E450 19" options at MB USA website are the best OE wheels to choose from to avoid adapters or other issues that might impact fitment.

Thanks again.

If you insist on going this route, then those tires would be a good options. Just remember that AMG tunes for the tires it comes with. See if you at least can get tires marked MO1 for Mercedes - AMG or MO for Mercedes.
As far as wheels, get MB or AMG. Do not get cheap Chinese ones.

It is not clear what MB OEM 19" forged wheels would work best for my 2025 E53 all season goals here.

I'm wondering if these wheel could work, but this MB parts site doesn't say much about the wheel dimensions beyond the diameter.
19" Front: https://mbparts.mbusa.com/oem-parts/...0540117007x71?
19" Rear: https://mbparts.mbusa.com/oem-parts/...0540118007x71?

I know the 2025 E53 is not listed as a model these work on, but that chart doesn't seem to be forward looking (beyond what they were primarily for) for any parts.

@Dima for clarity, when you say "If you insist on going this route..." are you concerned to some small or large degree that 19" wheels (and their higher profile tires) will be unsafe, or less performant, or just that it will be lots of work to find a good solution since it won't be an obvious OEM wheel / tire setup? I took no offense. Your comment raised genuine curiosity about your perspective.

As a backup, if I can't find 19" wheels that work, I did find Michelin Pilot Sport All-Season 4 tires that work on the 20" OEM wheels.

Mostly performance would be compromised. AMG tunes and test their cars with certain tires. Any changes in tire dimensions would impact handling, that's why they only approve smaller wheels for winter. There is also a question of weight of the wheel and tire combo. None of it means it's going to be unsafe to drive. Perhaps, if you do not intent to use the OEM tires, it would be better idea to put all seasons or whatever on the existing wheels.

UPDATE: Fairly official - You can safely put 9.5J x 19 inch wheels on the front of your E53.

My local dealer did some investigation for me and found that Mercedes-Benz in Germany offer a 19 inch wheel option for the AMG E53 and does not give you a warning if you equip the Dynamic Plus package that includes the 390mm brake discs. Here is the German build site with these 19 inch wheels (grey). I don't love the style of those wheels, but this is good news since it means the fitment is probably ok for other 9.5J x 19 inch wheels.

Q. Any suggestions about where to look to find high quality MB / AMG 9.5J x 19 inch (front) and 10.5J x 19 inch (rear) wheels online? I don't want the dealership filtering my options too much or wasting their time when much of this is subjective.

The current AMG C63 S E Performance has 9.5J x 19 inch wheels (front and back) so I could possibly use those with slightly staggered tire widths (Maybe F: 255/45 R: 275/40 to maintain diameter). Guessing the wheel/tire weight would be less than stock, and the weight of this beast would be sitting on very slightly less tread patch. Other than that, anything I should worry about?
