May have over did it with red wrap on front spoilers

My attempt to had a subtle touch of red to the E53 Hybrid front spoilers turned out a bit louder than the same modification on my Diamond White EQS SUV. I ordered some silver wrap to replace the red in hopes of toning it down a bit by matching the spoiler color to the wheels. I will probably wrap some smaller accents with red.

3M wrap on E53 spoiler.

I agree. That’s a little loud with the black. Silver will probably look really good.

It looks very tidy and smooth, very nice job applying it!

I've never had a car with wrap, how does it wear (especially on the front of the car)? Do you need to replace it every now and then or does it hold up against the bugs, washing, etc?

I don’t hate it. It gives me some ideas for wrapping the leading edges of my front end myself. Thanks for the input.

After 30K miles on my EQS SUV the wrapped spoilers needed to be refreshed. The second time around I painted the spoilers. Painting is more work and more expensive, but it holds up better. It only costs about $15 for the wrap so using it is a good way to decide whether or not you like the color. I removed the spoiler, wrapped it, and re-installed it. That's much easier than trying to wrap it while it is on the car.

Here's a thread showing the wrapped as well as painted spoilers on my former Diamond White EQS SUV.

Post a full picture of the car. Looks a little too much, but that may be due to the close up pic.

How about a full frontal pic to truly see how “loud” the red color wrap is? IMO, the red accent on the spoiler gives it a real punch but difficult to say how much punch without seeing it in full. Not to thread jack, but I added a similar one in glossy black to my white W213 and it gives it just the right look I am going for. Toning it down to Silver on black won’t quite do it, IMHO, but that red sure does…

Actually, I am more concerned with the side view since the front spoilers on the E53 are fairly large.

No offense, but I’d be embarrassed to leave the driveway.

On a Black car, that red accented front spoiler is a tough one. Hmmmm.... It does look a tad over-done, and I'd agree. Will you consider a CF wrap rather than the red? It may be a slightly better fit... I won't rec silver, but CF will do it, and give it a classy look to boot. I'll say don't let naysayers deter you from your goal... its your car and you can accessorize as you see fit.
Here is mine (glossy black on white) fits and complements the front fascia...

jk. I think you do a great job applying the wrap - I think silver or gunmetal will look amazing. Congrats on the '53, it's an amazing car

i *think* you could be at peace with that red wrap on the front lip however - more organic with the lines and less "scream and distract your eyes" from the beauty of the front lines

post pics when you're done

Your car looks good. I am surprised the spoilers didn't come black from the factory. Do you have a "before" photo? I have been considering CF but I am worried I am not skilled enough to apply it without stretching the "fibers" into a wavy pattern.

I'm not a fan of the red, but it's not my car. If I were to do something like that, I would choose dark gray. If you like it though, go with it. It looks unique and clean. Pretty car either way.

Regarding CF, don't sweat it... Get a matte 3M CF wrap (don't go cheap on this) and put it on and see if you like it. I had an auto tuning shop put on a 3M matte CF wrap on my front splitter and DRL units on my R172 (cost $100 - material & labor) and this lasted 5+ years before I had to re-wrap to its current glossy black. As for my W213 450... it didn't come stock with these front spoilers... they were added as part of my "E53 AMG remake".

I think silver works if I can get a close match to the Himalayan Grey wheels.

For the first two weeks of ownership I regretted getting the E53. The 1.6 mpkWh in full EL was lower than expected, the ride is a little on the firm side, and the fact that EL mode does not work in near zero (F) temperatures was a complete surprise. After six weeks with the car I have come to love it. I no longer run in EL mode and use C mode most of the time. I am getting 60 mpg on 200 mile trips if I top up the battery before heading home. Brake pad and rotor wear is minimal due to the brake recuperation which is about the same as my previous EVs. The ride comfort has improved considerably after lowering the tire pressure to 36/40 front/rear.

If I wrap the lower front chrome strip in red, I think I will have to wrap the trim between the two grilles to black it out.

I think it may be difficult for a DIYer to apply the CF pattern symmetrically across the left and right spoilers. Your Photoshopped picture in post #17 demonstrates what I am talking about. Thanks for posting the photos.

You are probably right. Unless you had a pattern and cut it out from a full square, it would be difficult.

Why would you want to put fake CF on such a nice car. Just go with the real thing.

Changed one of the spoilers to 3M 2080 Sterling Silver, G251, which is a decent match with the wheels. Much more tame than the Hot Rod Red, G13. Not quite sure the silver is the right color given the other chrome accents on the front of the car. Will post more pictures when I complete the project.

That is a more understated look though : )
