OTA map updates

I have had an issue with my 2025 E300de where the 'home' navigation map did not seem to update OTA. I contacted MB support and was initially told that I must go to the portal and register my home region and this would enable automatic OTA updates. However, I could never find the option in the portal to set the home region but I was able to manually download the update and install it in the car. After much over and back with MB support, I finally received the following from them which may be of interest to some:

" After consulting with our technical team, we would like to inform you that your vehicle is compatible with the “Live Map Update” feature. This function allows the vehicle to automatically download map updates when the ignition is turned on. Since the map data is now continuously updated based on the vehicle’s location and routes entered in the navigation system, over-the-air map campaigns are no longer delivered. As a result, there is no longer a need, or an option, to configure the home region in the portal. "

Did you try it and it works?

Difficult to say. I don't know if they mean that only the info relevant to wherever you're driving or have called up as a destination will get updated or the complete region gets updated. I haven't done any long journeys lately so I guess if there are no local changes, nothing gets updated? All I know is that the portal is showing v12 is available for all regions but it shows v11 as being installed. I could update my region manually but maybe better that I just wait and see what happens.

That is interesting because the connection is not constant depending on where you are (cellular reception limitations), so how can the car guarantee to have the map downloaded and ready while navigating and not interrupt the navigation?

I wondered the same. It would be nice if MB would clarify how this is done but getting information out of them is like pulling teeth.

Maybe they are moving more to a Google like approach, but with automatic offline downloads when a connection is available. This would mean they are always up to date or at least not far behind. Roads don't change that often. At least not by the day as it typically takes weeks or months to reroute roads or build new ones.

I noticed just last night that some roads have a dotted white line along them. Not all of them, but some of them. It wasn't due to congestion or construction as there was none of that. Maybe that is something new that is part of a live map.

Hmmm, dotted white line, might need to look up the legend what that is.

I think this solves the mystery for me. Using Mercedes Download Manager - v11 maps is/was available and I have download twice as the first time didn't work. Tried the second time this past Saturday and no luck - didn't recognize the USB-C drive and no activation of the update. Searched all the settings and I can no longer find the installed version, or option to update via the MBUX interface. Put in an address and towards the bottom of the screen it noted something along the lines of directions provided via Google. I don't recall ever seeing that.

The dotted white lines - I've noticed that being added to the exits. The self driving is more accurate and doesn't seem to get confused by the exits as much.

It's not just exits. I see it on several roads without exits. I haven't found a pattern yet and it's very few roads that show them.
