I'm not sure there is such a thing. To the best of my knowledge- you have to send the ECU in to be flashed. I don't thing there is a such a thing as a plug and play piggyback type piece like there is for GM and Chrysler. You have to send your ECU into LET, SI, etc...

Those are the piggy back things that are used on GM's and other brands.

No such monster for our cars. You're also not going to buy another ECU that is pre-tuned either- it doesn't work that way. You take your ECU out (5 minutes), send it off, and they send it back- pretty quick turn around. You may be lucky enough to live near one of the shops/vendors that offer the tune. In which case- you drive there and they do it while you wait.

I'm talking about tuning the stock ECU, not replacing it

In Hondas (HonData) and Subarus and such you can plug something in and tune the car as you drive

anyone know what I'm talking about?

you data log as you drive- but i doubt you tune while you drive. hyperchip, superchip, bulleydog, and a few others make those plug and play (piggyback) type chips where you can change pre-set programs while it's plugged in- but it's not done while you are moving.

You can tune while you drive in certain vehicles. Often times you can replace an EPROM chip or something of that nature with a piece of hardware that can be updated. Rather than reference the set values in the original chip, it will reference whatever values have been saved on the new piece of hardware. You can plug a computer in and alter these values and once you save them to the hardware, then the vehicle references those. In many cases, this can be done while the vehicle is in motion.

Mercedes uses a Bosch engine management system as far as I know and I'm not aware of any off the shelf systems that can manipulate the parameters in our ECU's. Obviously there is something out there or the aftermarket companies wouldn't be able to either.
