Most factory cars are open differentials, which by default will shunt power to the wheel with the least resistance ie lowest grip. This slows you down both in a straight and even more so in a turn (think tire squeal).
The Quaife constantly shunts power from the wheel with less grip to the wheel with more grip...thereby maximizing grip. Hence the term "limited slip" differential.
Most limited slip differentials or LSDs, use clutch packs to a preset, case in point my BMW uses a factory 25%, meaning up to a maximum of 25% of the torque will be shunted to the other side. Quaifes shunt up to 100% (actually it is more like 99.999%)
They key is maximizing traction so your not just wasting both hp and rubber going no where. :drive:
BTW, I see you are in VA near DC, I can meet you halfway in Baltimore if you are interested, and recommend you a installer (and forum member who wrote the DIY on the install) He is in MD as well.

As I keep/have now gotten the same question from 3 different people:
I am located in PA on the Eastcoast of the USA.
The unit would be installed in place of your current open unit, so you would retain your factory 2.82 or 2.65 Ring & Pinion. Install costs varies by who is doing it, though a fellow on the forum here located in Maryland would do it for ~$4-$500. Here is the thread he made on how to install it:
https://mbworld.org/forums/w211-amg/...e-install.html
Also, here is a comparison with the OEM open unit:

MBWorld Fanatic!
Lately several vendors have been offering this item for about $1000 new.
Not hating, just letting you know, if you are a motivated seller you may want to consider a price drop.
Glws.

I did in both of my BMWs, hence why I originally bought it. It makes makes exist speeds out of a turn much much higher...greatly aiding grip and decreasing need for traction control. The same has been echoed by others who installed it.
