First Impressions: My New EQB 300

I picked up my new EQB 300 yesterday afternoon and have put about 100 miles on it thus far. First impressions - I absolutely love it. My experience syncs up with many of the car reviews that we have seen pop up in recent weeks / months. The car is very easy to drive, very comfortable, and it has more than enough power to get the job done. And, if you switch it over to Sport mode, it is FAST and truly drives like you would expect an EV to perform. I've been charging at home via a ChargePoint Home Flex and it has been great. I actually got 40 miles of range added in just one hour, which was about 10 more than I had anticipated. I am very happy with the home charging thus far. This is my first Mercedes and I have been very impressed with the Mercedes Me Connect app. It's very easy to use and syncs up beautifully with the Charge Point Home Flex.

The only negatives thus far:

My "Hey Mercedes" voice assistant doesn't seem to be working. It worked at the dealership, but I have not been able to get it to work since leaving the dealership. Not a big deal but it's annoying to have a feature not work.

I'm not getting close to the EPA range of 240 miles thus far. I've seen other new EQB customers have similar experiences, so maybe it just takes time for the system to adjust to a new driver. But, in those first 100 miles I am only averaging 2.7 kw/h, which by my math is a total range of about 189 miles. To be fair, about 25 of those miles have been in sport mode and the other 75 were spent on the interstate, but still...it's a tad bit alarming. For my specific needs (city driving, 10 mile work commute, charging at home), this won't be a big deal, but it should be a warning to potential buyers who may spend most of their time on the interstate. I'm really curious if that 2.7 increases over time. I recall one of the MB trainers who had put 5000 miles on his EQB was averagin 3.4 kw/h which is line with the EPA ratings.

IMHO, nobody should buy a EQB if they are a road warrior who spends most of their time on long-range interstate trips. This is just not that kind of vehicle, and besides, nearly all EVs do not achieve their EPA ratings on the the interstate. (reference)

Thanks for the review!

I think it’s wise to attribute sport mode and highway driving as the greatest factor in range.

Keep us posted!

Enjoy your car... The range is all about learning art of energy efficient driving, see @ 8:35 eg no sport mode, accelerating gently, no full acceleration, etc:

How you drive has a lot to do with range. Sport mode and high speed driving will really lower your range.

Wanted to follow up after having the car for about 10 days and putting just over 400 miles on it. I've been closely monitoring and tracking the range just to have an idea what my real world range looks like. Here's what I'm finding:

In City Commuting - 220 miles
Highway Commuting - 200 miles

I am driving in Comfort mode 95% of the time and using the D-Auto setting for braking. Temps have been in the eighties. My EQB has the 19" inch tires which also has a negative impact on range from what I have read. Charging at home via the Charge Point Home Flex (50 am circuit) has been great - no complaints or issues. This is how I will charge the vast majority of the time. We took an 85 mile (each way) road trip this weekend and I decided to test out public charging A) to get a feel for it and B) to add some range on the front leg just to ensure there weren't any issues getting home. I first stopped at the Mercedes dealership where I purchased the car and used their Charge Point charger. Everything worked fine and the charge process was relatively straight forward, but I ended up getting charged $.50 per kw when the dealership had told me it's free to charge there. I then tested an Electrify America station on my way home and it was a disaster. The first charge attempt lasted three minutes for stopping due to an unknown erro. I then attempted to switch chargers and none of them were available for use (system issues). I left thinking "this is why I can't trust the public charging infrastructure yet".

We recently traded our 450+ (GREAT car) for a new EQB300. I test drove the EQB350 as well, but ultimately preferred the 300, mostly because of its color scheme, pinnacle, and AMG equipped options. Regardless, "happy wife = happy life." In fact, while she was driving it yesterday, I called her mobile and told her just how beautiful she looked through my 911T's rear view mirror 😉 🏁

Thanks for the reviews. Our '21 GLE350 lease is up this October and we've pretty much decided on the EQB300 for the added range over the 350. So instead of the GLE, our Rav4Prime plug in will end up being the road trip car. Still wish MB had a plug-in in the US market. Actually did place on order for a GLC plug-in in Jan '20 but by June when dealer didn't even have an allocation we both suspected the car would never be built. Since we already have a 50-amp circuit charger should be simple. Has anyone here had success with fast chargers like Tesla chargers? Any other tips/obervations/critiques always welcome.

FWIW, the Tesla Superchargers (Level 3) are not compatible with any non-Tesla vehicles. Nor has Tesla opened up their level 2 charging network to other makes. (So far.)

That said, the EQB will "fast charge" at 100Kw from the Electrify America DC (level 3) fast chargers, for example. It will also charge at 9.8Kw from any standard J1772 level 2 charger (like you would have installed at home.)

Some hotels and retail establishments offer "free" level 2 charging using Tesla equipment. TeslaTap sells an adapter to use a Tesla charger on a non-tesla (J1772) vehicle, but once again this is not for use at Tesla network charging stations that require a Tesla account.

Thanks for that tidbit on Tesla chargers. Hopefully Electrify America will continue to expand their network.
