Steering Software Fallback Level Software Update RecallRecall

Just received this intimation from MB. Any idea what this might be about? And how serious?

As a part of our endeavor to ensure that your Star is always kept up to date with the quality parts that are reliable, safe and durable, we would like to take this oportunity to share with you one such measure vide which we would request your support to help us ensure the same. In the process, we have found that the fallback level of the steering software on your vehicle may unfortunately not correspond to the specifications. Should a specific non-system-related and independent hardware fault occur on your vehicle, the software fallback level may not respond as intended. As a consequence, power steering may be impaired and a loss of steerability cannot be ruled out, which would increase the risk of accident and injury.

What is recommended?
As part of a service measure, we will therefore update the electric steering software in your vehicle as a precautionary measure. The required work will be carried out on free of charge basis and we request you to spare the car in workshop for subject action completion.

Haven't heard a thing. Wonder whether it affects all vehicles. Running my VIN through the MBUSA site, it does not show any open recalls.

Its not just the EQB but A Class, CLA, GLB, EQA, and EQB according to this release on the AU website: MERCEDES-BENZ AUSTRALIA/PACIFIC PTY LTD - Mercedes-Benz A , EQA, EQB, CLA, GLB Class vehicles 2018 - 2024.

So why not the GLA then?

Just got mine back today. No perceptible change in behavior. Just a software update.
