Can you make the dashcam always work?

I only need it to run while I’m in the car. It only seems to be active once I hit the loop button after I turn on the car. But, maybe I’m clueless 😆

May be a setting to automatically turn on when it detects voltage. On one I had there was an internal battery that would keep it in "sleep mode" (my term) until the car was started or there was a voltage change in the car. I took it out as the wire was a PITA to get it to a power source in the W212 E.

@moesess is talking about the built-in dash cam feature that you can pay to unlock. On our EQEs, it always starts automatically, no manual intervention required. It does take about 20 seconds or so before it starts, but it will always start if you're patient. If it's *not* starting, I highly suggest either reformatting your storage medium to exFAT, or to try a different storage device.

Yes, ours goes into loop recording automatically. It takes a good bit to start, we may be down the block a bit before it's ready to go, but it always starts. I did have to enable automatic loop recording in the Dash Cam app, but once done, it's always worked. I use 128GB Sandisk Ultra Dual Drives (has both USB-C and USB-A connectors), which has worked pretty well. I'd suspect any flash drive with a decent write speed should do great. If the write speeds are too slow, I suspect the system will error out. The files are very large per unit time.
The only time I've seen it not work is if the drive is removed, especially during power on. But if it's in well before turning on the car, it should work fine. Assuming you've set it to auto loop record (there is a setting in the app somewhere for it), it should start automatically after about a minute or so. If you've enabled the auto loop recording and you still have issues after about a minute of power on, I'd suggest a different drive.
